I was able to obtain an Owen Magic House Of Java. I should probably receive it this week. Here's the problem: the seller has no instructions for it. I have never seen a real "House Of Java", (only pics) but I assume it is very similar to a silk cabby. After speaking with the seller about it, he confirmed that fact, but also told me it was a "dove appear" box. However, in thinking about this in silk cabby terms, I cannot see a good way to produce a dove from it.
Am I missing something? I know this box has hinged doors at the top (roof) but according to the seller, they do nothing more than open. Is there any way to show the box empty before the production of a dove? The seller has been helpful as possible, and maybe I will figure it out once I get it, but I told him I was going to put in a request for a copy of the Owen instructions here at the Magic Café. I am betting some of you dove guys have one of these. So, if it wouldn't be too much trouble I sure would appreciate it if someone could email me a copy of the Owen instructions for their House Of Java. Even if they don't shed any light on ways to produce the dove I would still like to have a set of instructions for it. Any Owen piece deserves that much! If you could help me out, please send me a PM and I will give you my email address. If you don't have instructions but wish to offer any help or advice I'd be glad to hear from you too! I don't want to cause an exposure situation here, so please be careful and send a PM if needed. Thanks, and best wishes! Regan

Unless the person you purchased the House of Java from glued the sides shut, the side also open down. So the roof opens up on both sides and the sides open down on both sides.

Thanks Bill. That's what I thought, and the seller confirmed that fact. He said there's really no need he can see for the doors at the top. From the information I have been able to gather, and from what I know about a standard silk cabby, I don't believe this box can be shown empty before producing a dove. I hope I am missing something, and I am wrong, but I am afraid that is going to be the reality of it.
Thanks! Regan

Save your money, I got one of them from Owen`s pay`d a fortune, but it is not workable, nearly impossible to produce the dove from the side hole, and it is also unconfortable for your dove.

Tom, It's too late for that. I already bought it. Actually, I made a trade for a near-equally valued item.
Are you really supposed to produce the dove through the hole in the side? Wow. Do they explain how to accomplish that? It seems as if that would require a very small dove. Even if the dove easily fit through the hole I don't understand how you would get the dove out. Do you have to open one of the doors at the back (away from the audience) and push the dove through? If so, it seems like it would kind of be a very suspicious move. I mean, if the door has to be opened why couldn't the dove be loaded at that point? It might be easier than to get one through the hole! I can't really understand any other way one could manage getting the dove out unledd you reach your hand in through an open door. Maybe I'm missing something. (I hope!) The seller mentioned this way as a possibility, but he wasn't sure about it at all. He had no instructions and was trying to figure it out himself. Do you have the instructions? I would still like to have a copy. I'd be willing to pay you something for them. Thanks! Regan

Hi Regan!
I have just sent you the instructions by e=mail, as I found it under your profile. I hope your email works. Well I believe this apparatus is a Collector`s item, built to look nice in a collection. For Professional use, well, I have never been able to use mine, because it is impossible to get the live dove out of the hole in the side. If you use a large magic wand to push the dove out, perhaps, but it is certainly not very good for the dove! There are two round holes in each end. You open the roof, the back and front doors, and it really looks empty when you close the doors. It works exactly like a silk Cabinet. Please let me know If you can manage to produce the dove. If the one you bought is in like new condition, Hocus Pocus has one for sale for $150.00 so perhaps you can sell it to a collector. Tom Trix

Tom, thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I knew someone at The Magic Café would come through for me, but I had idea they would live as far away as Denmark! And the price was right too! (Note to readers: Tom did not charge me even though I offered to pay him) Isn't The Magic Café a wonderful place?
I just read the instructions and they do help me to better understand Owen's intentions for the operation of this prop. I will play around with it when it gets here and try to come up with some way to use it. As you mentioned, Owen's items are collectible, and I have always wanted to own something made by them. So, even if I can't use it with a dove, maybe I can use it like a standard silk cabby. Either way it will nice to have an Owen piece and now the instructions will make it complete! Thanks again, and best wishes! Regan
