It can, however, only be used as a coat rack until midnight on Festivus eve.

Some Christmas trivia:
"From 1659 to 1681, showcasing one's holiday spirit in Boston could cost you a fine of as much as five shillings. That's right — Christmas used to be illegal. Christmas was so inconsequential in early America that after the Revolutionary War, Congress didn't even bother taking the day off to celebrate the holiday, deciding instead to hold its first session on Christmas Day, 1789. It took almost a century for Congress to proclaim it a federal holiday." http://www.time.com/time/specials/packag......,00.html

Current references to the topic.
Not so sure if most Café members have read Aristotle (in translation) or Ovid etc.

Hmm. Don't recall either of them commenting on Christmas trees.
But if they did, Ovid might have said, "I hear better names and approve, but call them 'holiday trees'" and Aristotle would surely have said, "One tree does not make a Christmas, nor does one holiday; and so too Christmas day, or a holiday time, does not make a man blessed and happy." John

In the Epilogue to Ovid's "Metamorphoses" he wrote, "Now stands my holiday tree accomplished, such a work as not the wrath of Jove, nor fire nor sword nor the devouring ages can destroy." Or something like that.
Anyone watching "Boardwalk Empire"? (I saw a tree in it.) |

Good grief!
FWIW, when I posted this I really didn't give a crap who said it, when they said it or if it was Snopes approved! I personally found the general sentiment very much in line with my own beliefs and thought some others might enjoy the read and/or may even agree with it's basic gist. I obviously forgot to consider the Café Nit Pick Police! I apologize to any and all I may have offended or disrupted! MMc |

Surely this is discriminatory. As an alternative, we could modify food labeling laws to force companies to include information important to any and all religions. |
