I was inspired by Devious' post about his tenant ( http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......um=32&29 ) and was thinking that most of us do have some obsessive compulsive habits. So, what are yours?
I can't lock the door if I am not holding my keys. Can't leave the house without my wedding ring.

Holding the keys when locking the door isn't obsessive/compulsive. It's smart. (As anyone who has locked himself out many times can attest.)
Same with the wedding ring. Because there's always the chance that if you leave home without it, it won't matter if you remembered your keys, as the lock might well be changed before you get home. Scary thoughts, Bob |

Back in the Army we were supposed to keep our "gig line" straight: the edge of the shirt where it buttons, the edge of the belt buckle, and the edge of the fly. All one nice long straight line. I still catch myself in the morning, adjusting it and wondering why.

I obsessively lock all 3 entry doors and my gun safe any time I leave my home and my wedding ring is on my key ring (not my finger due to my profession). Other than safety reasons, cleaning or repair, why would you ever remove your wedding ring? Other than the cleaning or repair my wife has not taken hers off in almost 30 years!
I'm a little weird about numbers when it comes to setting timers and volume, it must be even or divisible by 4! |

I sometimes get words or phrases stuck in my head. Not from song lyrics or any identifiable source... just apparently at random. The last one in recent memory was "do-si-do your partner." If there was a long enough silence, or if I was just acknowledging something, I'd say it. Even when I tried to stop.
Those periods usually last only a day or two. Quote:

Not sure if this is some kind of "obsessive compulsive disorder" or "obsessive compulsive habit" though, but seems more of a learned habit taught and enforced in the Army that becomes engrained after being required to do it for so long.

Already posted a couple in that other thread. Even numbers are the big one. Stepping on tiles correctly. Pushing in all of the chairs in my row when I leave class or the lab.
I'm certainly not going to share all of them

Mickey,
60 divided by 4 is 15. 60 is even. I really try and avoid stepping on lines and cracks in the sidewalk.

Ah, got it. I was never very good at math anyway. Certainly could have been me misunderstanding!

I'm always big on checking if the lights are out, the gas is off on the range, and my mother-in-law's space heater is off before I go to bed. It's because of the last check that I do the other two!!!

I started listing mine but when I got to #74, with more to go, I realized 2 things:
1. I'm nuts. 2. Reading this thread gave me 3 new ones. Then I decided it best to delete my list. |

I constantly map things in my head by counting steps. It holds for about five minutes before fading out of my memory. I don't even think about it, just runs automatically in the background like Google tracking a cell phone.
I am currently 7 steps from the door of the room I am in. It would take me 37 steps to get outside and another 14 to get to my car. If you are in the dark in a burning building...You will want to follow me. I also have a thing for multiples of 6 (And in a lesser part, 3 and 9). I take real joy when something involves a multiple of 6. Doesn't bother me when it does not, but gives a boost to my day when it does. And I hate electric lights. At home, I only turn on lights if I need to read something, match up clothes or when cooking. The second any of these are done, the lights go back out. The only lights that are on in the house for any length of time are those for my reptiles. They need the heat. |

74 is also the number on the Interstate highway that runs through this town. I see numbers in patterns, or by immediately linking them to something else. For instance, I cannot see 8:08 on a clock without thinking, "Card time".
The number 2809 is for some reason recurring in my life and I tend to obsess over it. Some links to it: It was the address of a house I lived in, the address of a house a friend lived in, the address of another friend's office, the address of a man who bought tools from me, and the list goes on...
