Golden Earring's "Twilight Zone" was a top-20 song (and a much better one than Radar Love, IMO.

Once again,we have the US and UK split.
BTW.I thought Froch was decidedly average the other night. A good Nottingham lad,met his superior. Ray.

I like Froch, but he really wasn't in any danger of winning that fight. I've been saying for quite some time that Ward was underrated, though, so there's certainly no shame in losing to him. Ward should be a top 5 pound-for-pound pick.

"Kick Out the Jams" was, I believe, the only song by the MC5 that made a splash nationally. I purposely left out a word. Or is it two? Certainly some of the San Francisco bands of the '60s were "one hit wonders" (if that) but unfortunately I can't remember anything about it. Blue Cheer? The Charlatans (NOT UK), Country Joe and the Fish? Maybe two for Quicksilver Messenger Service...Fresh Air and Mona, though that one was a cover...)

A track I always liked when I was twelve was "Chirpy chirpy cheep cheep" by Middle of the road.
Never heard of them again. |

If I recall, Les Crane got sued for recording that song. He bought into the story that it was found written on the wall of an old church, when the truth was it was written and copyrighted.

A-ha - Take On Me, while they were a one hit wonder in the US they did quite well in other parts of the world. They broke up briefly then returned in 2000 making music until 2010. However with the poor sales of their other 4 albums, post Hunting High and Low, they decided to not offer any of their music from 2000-2010 in the US.
While the music video for Take On Me is still considered revolutionary, post 2000 they were one of the first bands to have a 100% flash animated video with I Wish I Cared. Their vocalist Morton Harket also holds the world record for the longest sustained note, by a male singer, in the video Summer Moved On.

It's no record-setter, but I've always been partial to Michael Kiske in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjV8SHjHvHk (starting at 4:15)

Lobowolfxxx the Wikipedia entry states: Ticotin overtook the previous record of 20.2 seconds which was held by Morten Harket, the lead singer of a-ha, in the song, "Summer Moved On." So it was the record setter, at one time, I was unaware it had changed hands.

Back in the late 70's I watched the record set by Jazz singer Sarah Vaughn. She was on the Guinness Book TV show that ran for a brief period. She held a note with perfect pitch for something over a minute I think. Anyone help me with the precise number of seconds?

I'm actually a bit confused after looking more into this. Guinness has 1:04 as the longest sustained note (just a note). Another site claims 1:23.
A-ha called the one Morten had as the longest sustained note by a male vocalist in a hit song. At the time Morten got his I remember Celine Dion had the word record for both female vocalist and over all in a pop song but cannot find mention of it anymore. So there does not seem to be a lot of clarification. Cliff I could not find anything for you. Her IMDb has nothing about being on a Guinness show and the only Guinness TV show I could find for the 70's was a game show where a constant, basically, had to decide if a record was true or false, sorry but I tried

I went looking for it myself. The host of the show was Don Galloway, and he does not have it listed on his IMDB page. It was a fairly forgettable show with a lot of stupid attempts (most failed) to break world records. A few succeeded and a few were good like Sarah's
