The strange tale of Mary Hill, a 17th century serving girl from Somerset in England... The story first appeared in a book dating from 1691... If this was a trick of some, I can't work out how on earth she might have done it...

I think the witnesses could be somewhat suspect here too, they were either easy to fool, or they possibly exaggerated the accounts, or both. From what I gathered, the only actual eyewitnesses were all ministers? Perhaps with a bias, if not an outright agenda?
