Where can I learn this effect? He takes a piece of string and starts to break pieces of it and rolls into a balls and sticks it on the other string and he stretches it out and it's back together in the same length like it was before. Any help, will be appreciated.

It's called dragon thread and you can buy it from penguinmagic.com http://www.penguinmagic.com/product.php?ID=275

I believe the version Blaine did is know as Hindu Thread and can be purchased at most magic shops.

The original effect, if I'm not mistaken, is called The Gypsy Thread. In the hands of many magicians it is mildly interesting but irrelevant. Look for Eugene Burger's performance: it's a masterpiece.

Yes the original is called gypsy thread.. I was shocked at this at first.. I still think its a very good routine.. and whoever came up with it is brilliant.. its practically flawless..

What is the difference between all of these?

There is none.. people just confuse the routine by calling it different names. I called it dragon thread at first also before I was corrected by a fellow magician. I forget where I heard dragon thread, but I thought it sounded cooler then gypsy thread .. but now I get the point of it.

I beleive that Dragon Thread is the name that Mike Wong uses for his marketed version. I do not know whether the name is original with him.

Wow really?.. even if you don't perform it.. it's a classical piece of magic that every magician should know.

Dragon thread is different than Gypsy thread in the way the thread is destroyed. In gypsy thread the thread is borken up into many pices. With Dragon Thread, the thread is basically shredded. I prefer Dragon Thread because the thread looks so much more in disrepair.

I prefer Mike Wong's Dragon Thread as taught on his video as well.
Not only do the pieces of thread look far beyond repair, but it is instantly reset for the next performance. Bill Beach |

I've seen it in a couple of TV specials though I'm not sure how recent, and in live performance. I do not know of it being on video or in a book anywhere. Sorry.
His patter is about the creation, destruction, and recreation of the world according to Hindu mythology. |

It is the last trick on Eugene's 3rd tape of the Magic Voyages series, and it is a performance only. You can also find it on Daryl's excellent Fooler Dooler tapes, fully explained with a little history included.

Eugene Burger's version of the Gypsy Thread is derived from the effect described in George Kaplan's book, The Fine Art of Magic. An earlier description of Burger's version can be found in his Spirit Theater book and the patter for his Hindu presentation is found in his Experience of Magic book.

None of which captures the awe of seeing--and hearing--Eugene perform it.
