Hi everyone, I'll keep this quick - I've been working on a new effect called Grandmaster Easy on and off for the last year (its an ACAAN but don't hold that against me) and I am about ready to release it, but I want to run it by a few faces. Think of it as a little focus group - I need to check everything in the ebook and supporting material fits together and makes sense.
If you are familiar with my stuff and have a chance to not just read through the routine but also give me a bit of feedback and answer a few questions please hit me on mitox@phillsmiff.com - I only need maybe five or six people to help so don't get mad if you aren't one of them ;-) Many thanks! Phill

That price would normally lead me to hit the PayPal button, especially as it has his name on it - but, as it's another ACAAN, and I have a garage full of them already - I think I too will await the reviews. But, "Self working and instant reset" sounds interesting. I just hope it's not a convaluted stack which requires mental gymnastics! (I can't even add up to thirteen after a drink (Invisible Deck) so easier the better for me please. C'mon guys - what about the ones who proofread it? Silence is concerning. |

Oh dear.
First of all. Buy it. Second: I'm one of those who received an early draft of this was certainly waiting until Phill decided to release it. Probably because in my heart of hearts I was hoping he wouldn't. Third: Like many of you, I'm getting a little tired of the gushing. I've gushed my share I know. But in my defence I've never arbitrarily gushed. This definitely deserves gushing. But I won't. Fourth: I've performed this a lot over the last few weeks and it's combination of Hand Off and Fair procedure makes it incredibly strong... and not only that it's self-working. And there's NO MATH. Fifth: And most importantly-- because the ACAAN, as great as it is... isn't even the most exciting thing in this eBook. Sixth: Like many of you, I'm getting tired of people who didn't pay for anything how cheap the creator is letting the effect/book/dvd go for... so I won't waste your time saying how truly shocked I am that this is going for something like $12. But it is shocking. Seventh: This is a beautifully designed, fully credited, wonderfully written eBook. So there... now watch they're going to slip this thread over to Mentally Speaking now.

So, why ask you for review if you bought it?

Not to worry, Dorian. I spent time in France (in Villefrance and Nice) many years ago and it was one of the greatest places I've ever visited. I love the French people.

Dorian posted his request for a review prior to a conversation with me where I used my powers of persuasion on him. So not that strange I guess?

I got input from some friends, from some of my cronies and from a few new faces: Dave for example helped me chew over the instant reset bit, Rocketeer did a beezer editing job as well as helping me figure out how to ensure a particular sequence of actions was as clear as possible, Mowgli helped me with a technical description, etc... None of them paid for the ebook so maybe you would think their reviews would not be completely impartial anyway? Obviously I'm not impartial, but I would just like to say GME involves no maths or mnemonics whatsoever, so you should be OK with it after a couple of pints. After a couple more... well, then it's up to you! Phill

Get this! I cannot believe Phill is letting this go for £7.50.
I received a pre-release copy of this gem. I'm not a card man but Phill takes this way beyond ACAAN and that really appealed to me. The ACAAN routine is everything Phill says it is. A hands-off self worker. Phill takes the concept much much further and when you read his routines and ideas you'll get a smile on your face and start to get excited about all the possibilities with this effect. Nice one Phill. |

I haven't tried this on anyone yet but I can tell you it is, as Max would say, "a thing of terrible beauty." And I have to agree with Phil when he writes, "The impact is out of all proportion to the effort required..."
As with all effects, the longer you practice and rehearse the better you'll be. But if you need to add something new to your act to use at a gig in a week's time, this is the one to get. You just have to have a normal memory. (And the only things you have to remember are the actual nine(!) steps in the effect.) Since the effect is self-working you can really work on your premise and presentation. Phil gives you a number of ideas but I've already thought of how I'm going to present it. I like that.

Okay - I'm in! Just allow me some time to clear a space in the garage! Thanks Guys.
I went to Paris once and found the French to be downright rude. Then I went to Cannes, twice, Nice and Grasse and found a difference kind of people. Just lovely! |

Well, since I asked for it, I might as well give it!
A REVIEW! Okay - I didn't mean to come accross as a tight-ass - it's just that I do have rather a lot of ACAAN's dotted around the home and I usually end up going back to the tried and trusted ICAAN by Barrie Richardson. So, I took the leap of faith, borrowed from the bank and parted with £7.50. Within ten seconds of PayPal clearing, the document was downloaded and nicely stored with all my other pdf's. First off then, the pdf. One thing that irritates me about 'instant download' (pdf style) magic is the poor layout, incorrect use of grammar, awful spelling and little, if not none at all, proofreading that gives it the appearance of someone's thoughts merely 'scribbled' and quickly sold to make a buck. Well let me state from the outset that this is a beautifully presented document that would not go amiss on the coffee table printed and appropriately bound in one of those nice glossy folder thingies. It really is that good. Not as I suspected it would be anything other given the author's credentials. It is written in true Phill Smith style (for those of you familiar with his other works) and is very easy to read and understand. If anything, some things are over explained! Not a bad thing though for the blondes and the French. (unless you're a French blonde that is!) Okay - seriously then... The content is excellent. Nothwithstanding the fact that the £7.50 buys you the effect. There is much more besides that I would say is worth an additional £7.50. Phill shares with the reader many of his additional thoughts and a thorough explanation of something you need to consider for this effect (more of this, my only slight criticism later...) So the effect then? Okay it's nothing new or ground-breaking and, for the Crediting Police amongst you, Phil goes to great lengths to highlight his inspiration. But what he has unearthed is quite a joy for the simplistic amongst us. Quite true - no mentalness to worry about after a drink or two! There is no secret that it uses two decks, and without cause for suspicion and with 100% logical reasoning if you work it into your script - which is not difficult - unless you're... never mind! There is a little preparation work to be done but takes two minutes and does not require a Mem Deck. (But if you have one, or a stack - that's cool!) Anyhoo, The decks are offered to a spectator and he/she has a free choice. Yes they do! (I like that bit a lot!) The rest follows exactly as described in the marketting blurb and, worked with appropriate scripting, reveals a miracle to a lay person. Phill, sensibly, advises to try it out on yourself before unleashing it to your public. Wise I suppose, but I had difficulty understanding why a lay-person would not see through some, if not performed with thorough diligence, transparency. Phil does mention this and caters for it in the explanation. Which brings me to my only slight criticism: Okay, it is not marketted as a self-worker per-se, but those words are mentioned in the sales blurb and elsewhere on this thread. Beware those of you who might be beginners, this is not self-working in that respect. Something simply has to be done (very early in performance) in order to sell through an otherwise obvious transparency, which, if not done, would render the whole efect useless. The thing that needs to be done is so easy to the non-beginner that I can see why it might have been overlooked for the words self and working to be used. Phill explains clearly an excellent method to achieve it. Thereafter - the effect is totally self working leaving the lasting impression of an, otherwise, excellent hands-off ACAAN. My only worry is dealing the reveal facep-up. Not carefully managed - this could be a risk. Dealing face down could be an alternative - but makes the instant reset a few seconds more than 'instant.' I will use it occasionally where I can, but as I usually only perform with one deck, I doubt if it enough to warrant me carrying around two decks for my routine repertoir. That said, it does instantly reset (if performed as is written) with utter simplicity, I'm surprised Phill even goes to such lengths to describe it. Unless, of course, he was catering for the... - oops nearly said it. And, of course, either or both decks can then be used for continous work - which is a great plus point if you're a dual deck worker! A great opener in my opinion and a powerful one if your presentation is up to scratch. Worth £7.50? Ridiculously so! And if, like me, you enjoy Phill's musings, you'll get that in value and a free trick thrown in! So, as dmoses said, "Buy it" (respectfully submitted with a nod and a wink to Dorian, blondes and the beautiful French folk everywhere!) |
