Comp,

Don't you just love how Benji uses these "top pros" to spread the word about him.
He has them wrapped around his finger for sure. Like little puppets on a string doing his work for him.
If only they knew.

I got a feeling they will be calling him Sir much quicker than we predicted.

Tom lets be serious here ok? I mean it. No name calling or stroking egos or bs or needles to try to rile people up, but talk seriously. Is that ok?

Do you REALLY think he has ANYONE wrapped anywhere? Seriously? I mean if you do I have no idea how to even talk with you as a professional I thought you were. I am not trying to lash out at you as I respect you. I really do and I don't want this to degrade.

Doing WHAT work for him exactly? Do you REALLY think it is good to have his "opinions" lets call them exposed as they are? Do you SERIOUSLY think that stuff about calling him "sir"?

Really I am trying to sepporate the little jabs and passive aggressive attacks from what people really think.

Let me start. Seriously. Lets leave the hero worship and defending him out and just talk facts.

To his credit he has LOTS of energy, and AS I HAVE SAID BEFORE, the show is not in question. He does need some polish on it that can ONLY come from experience. There is no short cut for that no matter what anyone says.

As for business his tactics are either from what I have seen rehashed and at times questionable. Is that a fair word? (Also I said "at times" so I am not saying EVERYTHING he does is wrong mind you.)

Lets be honest he came here with an "I wanna be a guru" attitude from day one. We all called this from his first few posts on the Café'. What is it EXACTLY that makes you think that he is somehow a "rising star" if you will, in the corporate magic world? What other than HIS OWN WORDS do we have to go on?

I am trying to be fair Tom. If not then point out where in this post I have not been please. But you guys have him set up as the next big thing, and yet we have nothing to show other than stories from Benji, to indicate such a thing. I'm wondering how you get to this conclusion?

And Tom incidently when you put "top pros" in quotes it is pretty much saying that they are not. Nobody is insulting you so I would ask for you to stop the passive aggressive stuff from your end.

Tom...come on, I know you know better than this. So how much real money is this putting in his bank account?

Some people realize the difference between being seen as successful, admired, looked up to, etc and ACTUALLY being successful. One creates checks that clear the bank, the other creates a warm fuzzy feeling. More power to anyone that can generate both. But I see far more posturing that profiting.

No really, I'm serious, this thread will help him sell his book for sure.

An ole marketing trick in a small market like magic is, if you can get half the people to hate you, then the other half will fall in love with you. Now that's not hard to do in magic since it is so divided anyway.

Now understand this, Benji is not intentionally getting people to dislike him, it's just working out that way. Notice how every time his name comes up, the same group comes a running, they're promoting him. Those trying to kill him are actually helping him. Seriously, he is building a fan base from it.

Benji understands this so he just sits back and smiles and you can't really blame him. His involvement here wouldn't change any minds anyway. And a book review is certainly not going to sway anyone now. It too will end up being half and half.

Benji wins.

Think about it.

That's nice in theory Tom, and it's long been said in marketing, but has proven just not to be true. Just like the old advertising adage any publicity is good publicity, even bad publicity. Again, good in theory and often repeated, but again simply not the truth. In reality I have seen one bad review or one bad media segment kill an entire project and multi-facted marketing campaign.

I do not believe for a minute Benji's book is selling due to this thread. I think you're giving him waaay to much credit. The only thing he's getting out of this is an ego boost seeing himself being talked about, and having his pawn participate.

Hey Mindpunisher,

Benji has yet to even touch the hypno hypnosis world.

Can you imagine what he will do in that world? I for one will welcome him aboard. Will I be the only one?

PS: Who once said "let it happen and it will."

Wayne...come on you know the natural progression is magician, mentalist, real estate OR insurance agent, financial planer, THEN hypnotist. Smile

P.S. No disrespect to hypnotists or real estate agents.

Please, don't encourage him. I predicted this too long ago, and also on page 1 of this thread as well. You think he's got it tough here, just wait until he tries hypnosis. The Hypnosis community will eat him alive and make this seem like child's play. You will more than likely be the only one or one of few that welcome him. But I've said it before, it will happen.

I have absolutely NO DOUBT he will move into the "hypnosis world". (Whatever the hell THAT is.) It is a natural progression for guys who are UNSUCCESSFUL at all the other venues. Then they go and try that. The "hypnosis world" is a dumping sight for failed comics, failed magicians and failed mentalists. It is sort of for variety entertainment what porn is for the reality star world.

Tom that is one of the craziest things I have ever heard. IF IT WERE TRUE THEN BENJI WOULD WANT TO BE HERE BEING HATED. You are doing way too much thinking for him. If it were true he would TRY to make it happen instead of having it happen. He is about as subtle as a sledge hammer. The world he is trying to sell to is WAY TO SMALL for that sort of thinking Tom. But you keep thinking that LOL. It is something people repete because they have to tell themselves that. You guys are all the same. You all want people to be successful SO BADLY you don't care. I am shocked in truth there are so few of you. I thought the rest of the guru community would rally in support of Benji but alas the absence is odd.

But I have no doubt for years to come we will be hearing fake stories out of Benji about how great he has become. It will be a tale told in school instead of Beowolf. Your hero will last as an example for centuries. Or he will keep selling the same 14 books every 2 months that he writes one.

Danny,
It's not so crazy when you think about it. I agree that it's not the best marketing ploy, but it's the quickest and surest. To build a solid long term career out of one thing does take a long time, I agree with that. But those like Benji don't have a lot of time, they moving on to bigger and better things.

Just something to think about but look at how the D Dee magic products played out. They were a big success for him because half loved it and half hated it. Look at the many Mark L. battles on here. Look at how many fans he made.

The magic community is so divided that it just works itself that way. And really, I'm not saying Benji is planning it that way, but it is happening. There is nothing that Benji could say if he were here that would change anything, so why should he be here. In fact, his presence here would probably only make it worst for him. It's working for him as is, and I'm sure he appreciates all the help he gets from you, mindpro, and the others that are so against him and out there promoting his every move. Benji doesn't need encouragement. His type does it for the challenge. You tell him not to do something and look out, it's done.

This only works in a very large market, where a small percentage is still a huge number. (Example; Hollywood) OR a very small market such as magic where you already have competition, jealously, and a wide range of personalities.

Benji will survive, learning from his own mistakes, and move on to bigger and better things. I really do wish him the best.

OH no he doesn't need encouragement.

Tom what is all the noise about bigger and better things? He has not accomplished ANYTHING! God you must be delusional. Seriously. Sure wishing him the best is all well and good but encouraging him to do things that will hamper that is just plain wrong.

Tom if a child came home with money that he had gotten by telling lies and cheating would you encourage him to keep doing it? If not then why not? And then tell me why this is any different?

Would you then be saying how the child will then move onto bigger and better things?

Danny, he is moving into the speaking market as we speak. There are more books, more special shows, more TV and much more coming soon. You can't stop him. He has more lives than a cat. lol

I just hope that when he gets up there to accept his awards, he remembers all ya'll for the help.

For the record, we haven't seen not one lie from the book yet.

I disagree with Tom (imagine that), Benji will peek out rather quickly and too soon operating in the way he is. In reality I know Benji is following the proceedings here and is more than likely learning and taking notes from the wealth of information that some of us have offer directly and between the lines, as long as he's still open to learning and truly doesn't believe he knows it all.

As far as credibility and respect, Benji does actually care what is said here and what we think. I know Benji's type and they are often hyper-critical and hyper-sensitivre.

(Tom quote) "There is nothing that Benji could say if he were here that would change anything, so why should he be here. In fact, his presence here would probably only make it worst for him."

A very similar thing has happened on the hypnosis forum with a relative newbie who was asking elementary questions and then within a few years started releasing trendy information and education products and resources. Initially everyone (most) started calling him on this and his lack or experience, time and credibility. How he was preying off of a bunch of newbies, amateurs and wanna-be. The difference is how he handled it. He respoonded to nearly every single post, good or bad, positive or ripping him apart, confidently and proudly stating his position (regardless of how crazy, far-fetched or uncommon), he admitted his strategies and was extremely honest and forthcoming about his ideas, efforts, beliefs and releases. He also admitted when he was wrong or should've dome things differently. While many still disagree with his ideas and mentalities, he has won the respect from those that were his greatest offenders or opponents, because he didn't hide, lurk, have others participate on his behalf, but took it, and confronted it, stating his opinions and perceptions regardless of how untraditional.

I would much rather see Benji do the same. Quit hiding and pretending to be too good or unbothered by what's going on here, but address the people and posts, tell, share and explain his "why" he feels and believes as he does, the "hows" of how things have or haven't worked for him and so on. He used the Café to hype and promote his journey on his self-produced show, then never followed through with the details everyone was waiting for here.

From a business perspective you also would think he would see and (since he's such a marketing and business guru) understand the benefits of positively participating here (completely not selectively) and how it could and would help his over all entreprenurial efforts and business plan. It could also improve his reputation here.

Of course he'd have to be true and sincere and in the real world. This is the part I feel he's have the most difficulty with as you know how the ol' saying goes, "eventually you start to believe your own bu****it." This could in actuality be the bigger problem for our friend Benji.

MP,

I don't think I will encourage too many young people into hypnosis. I have seen the craze and I am a bit old school when it comes to this.
My last gig I heard about a nightmare from the dee jay at the event. He told me about a magician who tried some newly learned hypnosis on an elderly man who had a heart condition. He was on the dance floor dancing up a storm (suggestion) and his wife was frantic. The young magician knew not what to do. He learned his lesson but it could have been a disaster not to mention a big dent in his pocket.

No I think not from me.

PS: Thomas Cooper has learned his lesson???

Tom, you're still hung up on the *** book. Most that has been said here about the bigger picture. few actually care at all about the book.

So let's recap - restaurant magician, corporate mentalist, high-end exclusive high-society mentalist, marketing guru and now super speaker, all in what a year or just over?

The term "Jack of all trades, master of none" is being played out live before your eyes and you obviously are not just not seeing it, but encouraging it. Yes, this is good for the industry and all industries involved, I'm sure.
