I love watching Docc work but consider him more of a bizarrist, so that's why he wasn't on my list.
Top Three is tough, Top Ten would be better.

Paul, it's based on performance, so I have only included guys I have seen live or very good quality clips of. There are several guys whose thinking I love, but the performance in Huddersfield was a mind-opener for a lot of us. So now I guess you are going to have to buy a bigger hat.

Derren Brown is definitely in here (maybe on top), even though he does a lot of hypnosis and non strictly mentalist things, he has some truly mastermind ideas and plans that everyone wishes they could pull off so kudos to him.

Next to or above him, Cassidy is just fun to watch, especially pulling things off with billets. I recently watched his Name Place routine again after some time of seeing it and it's just a really solid act. He never visibly seems to look at the billets, that's what keeps them insignificant. Wonderful work.

For me the names would change based various criteria. For example, for theatrical presentation it would be:

Goldstein
Kreskin
Geller

For promotion of the art:

Goldstein
Cassidy (PEA)
Banacek

... etc.. it all depends... thank goodness you've only limited me to those who are still alive too!...

I can never do "best of" lists, cos they always change depending on my mood and thoughts at the particular time...

Derren Brown might make my list if he didn't end his shows with the superfluous big prediction at the end. That prediction, for me, turns him into a magician.

Brilliant performer, though.

I won't write with 1,2,3 because each one is my favorite for different reasons. But it would be:
Banachek, Derren Brown, Bob Cassidy, Kenton Knepper
