-Derren Brown because he really influenced my idea of character, what is truely miraculous in mentalism and where to draw the line on the psychic vs. psychological performer as well as fusing different arts.
-Luke Jermay for showing me that the real effect is in the mind of the laymen or women and that really anything can be achieved in a performance. -Docc Hilford showed me that you can have the simplest effect in the world, but with elements of storytelling you can really create an amazing experience for your audience. -Jerome Finley is appearently the pennicle of performing with out props, I honestly believe that Jerome is the closest thing to psychic out there and simply hearing about some of his work and other performers talking about him makes him sound like an impossible character. -Luca Volpe is a truely great thinker who can astound and connect with his audience on an emotional level, since purchasing Emotional Mentalism I have really become addicted to the bizarre new age style approach. That is not in any order, it is really hard for me to pick a favorite! -Jake |

It great to see that Derren Brown is being mentioned a lot in this topic. His work in mentalism is brilliant (particularly his early work). Love watching him perform. I hope he has much success in the U.S.
Ps.: His card work on The Devil's Picturebook is amazing! |

I would say for me,
Cassidy - Amazing teacher and his DVD was one of the best I have viewed! Banachek and Osterlind - As teachers I would say they are up there with the best! Derren Brown - Just because he makes it look so easy and is a prime example of how to do Mentalism well! Colin Mcleod - Because he has taught me so much and has helped me through the years! Euan

Kreskin: because he showed that you can have a good time and have fun. His character is so anti-mentalism, yet audiences love him. And he had no rules. Whipping out some linking rings? No problem Doing a card trick? Who cares! He just had a good time and so did his audience. Derren Brown: A thinker. His shows have purpose and flow. He understands how to perform a full stage show and doesn't worry about if everything fits in a briefcase. Its about the audience and the theater. Jon Riggs: For his thinking. He has written some of the most amazing ideas. And so many have been copied. Also if you get to watch his DVDs not only will he teach you great things...underground things....his dry humor will crack you up. Max Maven: Although I have a love/hate relationship with his character and sometimes how he treats the audience...his intensity and thinking can't be denided. Christian and Catalina: Not only can they have me laughing so hard my ribs hurt, but they perform things I have never seen before. Totally out of the box thinking. Christopher Carter: If you saw his show at mindvention you would know why he is simply jaw dropping amazing. Richard Osterlind: A year ago, I wouldn't have added him, but if you saw him at Mindvention this year, you would have been very impressed on how his personality shown through when others were struggling. Dicc Hilford: Because he can just get away with stuff that no one else can. Great stage presense. |
