WOW ! I had completely forgotten about these...We were so pushed for time ( as always ) I painted these over two older banners( please forgive me ). I had already finished the Toby Tyler trucks and had some concession stands in MY quarters for them. Johnny Fraiser drove in with the old banners and told me what he wanted and if he could have them by the weakend. ( only 5 days away ) . I had to take them to Daytona Beach got there about 3:3o on Sat. PM.
I got a mild chewing out BECAUSE I didn't get there earlier. I got a little P-Oed and Instead of 250 each I charged them 325 each plus a hundred for the door way. The lesson to be learned here is...Never YELL at a supplier before you KNOW the price. |

Anyone know what this is[/quote This was probably the worst piece ( not to mention ugly ) of equipment in the entire history of show business...Like a lot of things on Toby Tyler, it was a last minute idea...Think of how much the show could save if they didn't have to rent Porta-Johns everyday...thrown together quickly, it had to be re-welded every week but it had the best tires on the show. They had used old axels and had to buy new tires every couple days. AND IT LEAKED. This trailer was a major source of HEAT for the show.It not only stunk but it was uncomfortable to use...When show people called it the "**** wagon" they didn't mean the contents. |

The snake show is my favorite. I don't think I've ever seen such a small set up looking so good.

Hey,Pete.....Your photo Looks like rolls of cash register tape...CAN'T be toilet paper....Most show owners think it's against FEDERAL law to put any toilet paper or even paper towels in a doniker wagon...That's one sure sure way to tell green help...if they don't carry their own paper , they're new....

We got wind of some of the "controversy" here in OZ
but apart from sharp "practices" heard little else at the time or since. talking of getting wind, the "Tyrone" tent wouldn't want to be hit with even a breeze. Great photos Jim Z and great yarns Jim H. Keep them coming please. |

If you look under the doorway banner on the tyrone the terrible show, you can se e a water pocket in the top. There also looks like one in the front left corner. Notice that ticket taker has a slicker on. I think this photo was taken after a storm. Most of the people were more interested in GTFM than they were in safety... I remember seeing the show work animal acts ( horses, mixed animal, bulls, etc.) while people were sitting against the ring curbs.

She was also a talented artist and exceptionaly gifted when it came to horses...I was drowning in work that winter and falling seriously behind . Since Jane was staying next to WQ ( at Ava Williams) I was able to get Jane to help on some of the trucks. She did most of the animals and all of the horses. I did all of the logos and scrollwork and basic layout of pictorials ( size, position, concept). Jane also helped fill in some lettering and mixed paint for me...and wasn't the least bit afraid to climb around a semi which I found amazing considering she was 74. |
