What is the best card force to do on stage with kids or adults, and can be done well with a jumbo deck?
I would like a force that not only plays well to the volunteer, but also to the audience. Any thoughts? |

If its on stage, I always use a pop eyed popper deck (Rough and smooth) Its easy and it doesn't look fishy. Especially with a jumbo deck. It all looks fair.

John Bannon has a force that would work well. Forces the bottom card.
I believe it is in his book "Impossibilia" Uses a normal deck, sleight-of-hand is not difficult at all, very deceptive. Personally, I use the classic force in every show I do. Kids, adults, whatever. Once you get used to it, you never even think about it anymore. For the best media on the classic force, get Paul Green's DVD.

For me, the classic force works on adults about 19 times out of 20. Which is about the same ratio that it doesn't work on 5 year olds!

Pop Eye Popper all the way.
If you have larger hands, the Hindu Shuffle works. |

Riffle force.
It's very simple and convincing. I do this for my mind reading shows and I also use this at the end of every boys birthday party with a jumbo deck. The angles are just a little tricky with a jumbo deck, but it really isn't hard at all.

I just use the criss-cross force with a jumbo deck. Never been busted.

Thanks guys. Here are my thoughts...
1. I have used the criss cross force and it works fine. It is great for the volunteer, but doesn't play as well to the audience. Requires some type of table, which limits the effectiveness to the audience. 2. The riffle force is great. I use it with a regular deck, but don't see an easy way to convert the handling for a jumbo deck. 3. The pop eyed popper is a good idea. Might need to drop $40 for the jumbo version of this. I agree it would look unfishy. Thanks for this idea. 4. Classic force. Not confident enough with this yet for adults or children - personally. Something to work toward. 5. What is the name of a bottom force, where you cull the bottom card under the fan. As the spectator touches a card, you clearly hold this break as you separate the cards, you place the culled card on the bottom of the upper stack. I think this seems pretty easy with a jumbo deck. What is this called? Thanks for the good ideas. |

Hello Tony
If you can figure out how to do a search through the Magic Café archives, there's a relatively exhaustive break-down of proven methods for forcing with a jumbo deck from a couple or more years ago that will provide you with many good options. Julie |

It is a stretch but you can Hindu Shuffle force with a Jumbo Deck. Just keep it tipped down so the Spectators see the backs and not up and under. If the deck is too big you can take a few cards out of the Deck.

Yep, the Hindu Shuffle is a good one. My hands work that well with a jumbo. Thanks for that reminder. This doesn't requre a table and the large deck could be reason enough for the unusual "shuffle" in the audience mind. Thanks.
Julie - right. I'm doing some searching as well. Thanks. |

I use a Jumbo Al Baker force deck....3 indifferent on the top, then a half deck stack one way, then the rest just normal. You can fan the bottom half to the audience to show the deck as ordinary, then deal from the top. First three cards can be casually flashed to audience as you explain to the volunteer what is required, then you have 26 of the force card for them to shout STOP at. Once they do stop, you can still give them the choice of the card in your hand, the last card you dealt on the table, or the card on the top of the remainder of the undealt pack!!

I do a false hindu shuffle with my jumbo deck, I think a hindu bottom force would be great.
But really, try the riffle shuffle with you jumbo deck real quick, it's easier than you might think. I get the pi**y Br**k during my hindu shuffle (it's a large br**k, like preparing for a classic pass). There are several ways of concealing the break depending on how your audience is set up. EDIT: Okay, I just actually grabbed my deck and remembered what I do (I'm used to doing it, not describing it). Get the break during the hindu shuffle and hold the deck with the short side pointing forward and vertical. This way you pinky is way at he back and totally concealed and you can point the deck in any direction.

Thanks Seadog - I'm sure you are right about the riffle shuffle. Thanks for the special handling idea on the hindu shuffle.
Gary - Love the idea of the Force Deck. Can you provide a link to a web site? Did a google search and was struggling to find it. |

The Force Deck is absolutely the way to go. No one is going to try to grab your giant jumbo deck. It comes out, you justify having giant cards, show them casually - if you're so casual, they must not be sneaky - you have a card selected, and the rest pf the deck goes out of play. The easier you make it on yourself, the more casual about it you can be, and the more natural the handling and the less suspicious it all seems. Good luck!

Tony, I get all my card stuff from these guys in the UK. http://www.cards4magic.co.uk
What you're looking for is a Jumbo force deck. Half regular, half one way. Just pop a few regular cards on top and you're good to go!! I'm sure you'll get this from a US dealer!! |
