Z.A.P. Wallet, by Diamond Jim Tyler

In my continuing (but thankfully rare) efforts to post about items that have been available for a long time but wouldn't currently be on anyone's radar:

After vowing to stick with my Stealth Assassin and to not accumulate a pile of other wallets, I finally gave in and purchased a Mind Spy, a JOL Plus, and two Z.A.P. Wallets. The Z.A.P. because I was looking for a peek wallet that was slimmer and simpler than the other wallets, and they come in brown, and two of them because they're cheap and so I could lower my per-unit shipping charge.

I agree with Jheff (his review is at http://www.marketplaceofthemind.com/zap_wallet.html) that Z.A.P. is likely a card case that Jim Tyler found on the market as a non-magical item and is re-selling them as peek wallets. My first impression when I removed one from its packaging was that it was reasonably attractive but felt a little cheap. I set the Z.A.P.s aside in the "to get to someday" pile.

A while back I started carrying two separate wallets, one for money and bank-related cards and the other for ID, medical cards and transit pass. I wanted something with two windows and at least one outside window so I could flash my transit pass without opening anything, and I realized that a Z.A.P. would meet this requirement. I've been carrying one of the Z.A.P.s daily for over a year now and it occurred to me the other day that this wallet looks great and has held up extremely well, much better than I would have expected. The dark brown leather acquired a nice patina shortly after I started using it (with a little help from some Bicks 4 leather conditioner), and I can't think of another wallet that I've ever owned that's worn so well after a year of daily use.

Have I used it as a peek wallet? Well, no, I've got My SAW for that, hence the "sorta" in the title. Offhand I'd say it's probably a little more angle-prone than a SAW or a SUC, but to its credit it's much slimmer than a SAW and would, I think, be great for shirt pocket use with Docc Hilford's "miss" peek.

The point I wanted to make is that for such an inexpensive wallet (card case, really), I've found it to be very durable and good looking after heavy use. I can't find anything else like it in the non-magic market, so I just bought two more as backups (my wife uses the second one of the two I originally bought). If you're looking for a slim, cheap peek wallet, or just a good ID-window card case, I recommend the Z.A.P.
