Ok I've decided to put in a mouthcoul routine into my show but my local shop sells a 13 pack of mouthcoils for $20, is that a reasonable price or can someone direct me elsewhere?

Try Penguin magic. You may have to buy more to make it worth your time but in the end it will cost less.

Try Madhatter Magic- they usually always have specials on mouthcouils, can get them really cheap!

Hank Lee Magic is also good, although supporting your local magic shop is always a good thing.

Sorry, go to cresey.com They make thier own mouth coils, and have pretty much any that you can think of.

Quote: Prices listed at cresey.com are retail. That's what one should be paying at the local magic shop. If the shop is selling them for $20.00 (for a regular size - about 21 feet) someone needs to ask them why.On 2012-01-26 11:39, marx3232 wrote: Sorry, go to cresey.com They make thier own mouth coils, and have pretty much any that you can think of. |

The best price I found on the Cresey brand are at Penguin, lower than the Cresey sight.

Make your own mouth coils to save money. Members discussed ways of doing that somewhere on the Magic Café.

It's wonderful to know you can make your own mouth coils. That way you know you can always make one if you had to.
I still buy them, tho.

The mouthcoils, my magic shop sell are $20 for 13 mouthcoils, each are 25 foot long? Is that alright? Coz I don't really like buying stuff online unless I get a real bargain

I made my own for years in just the colors I wanted but Wishing Well (a now defunct party supply) quit selling beautiful tissue paper in a full spectrum of colors, by the quire (24 or 25 sheets). Too bad. I don't use more than a few a year nowadays, mostly to "seasonalize" a show by color scheme.
It is nice to know that in a pinch you can make one out of wrapping paper, although they are not as long for the bulk and one side will be white. I never use them in my mouth or ask any volunteer to put anything in their mouth. Making your own is labor intensive and cutting them is hard on the hands and scissors. I'm not even sure it would be cheaper at todays prices. I just allows a custom look. -Mary Mowder |

Quote: It's a bit pricey, Hugh. But if you're just trying cois on for size, to see how you like them, then it's fine AND it's local. I use two coils in each kid's show - one multi-color, the other foil. I buy mine in bulk, at wholesale, so they're a great deal cheaper than the $1.50 each you will be paying locally. On 2012-01-26 21:48, Hugh Entwistle wrote: The mouthcoils, my magic shop sell are $20 for 13 mouthcoils, each are 25 foot long? Does that sound like a "hilarious presentation" to you? Seems he's a good entertainer. His DVDs have not been worthwhile in my opinon.

I think you can see his mouthcoil routine on his website or maybe Youtube and decide for yourself. On his dvd he shows it done for an adult show and a kid show with a variation. Like any magic routine, you might like it you might not, and it may or may not be right for you, and you can use part of it or all of it.

Magic is believing in yourself, if you can do that, you can make anything happen.

13 a pack?.......weird.
How long are you tryng to have the coil? If theyre 13 coils @ 21 feet each for $20, that's a total ripoff. Daytona Magic sells a pak of 12 coils @ 52 feet each for $14!! My fave method: Get some various colored streamer-paper (about 8" per color) and crumple them into you hand, add some glue via Bizzaro's "Non-Toxic" (SEO still sells it) and out it comes!
Everybody wants to beleive.....we just help them along.

I personally use Baxt's mouthcoil routine. It gets a great reaction every time I do it. As with any magical effect, it's not about the trick, it's about the presentation. It is up to US, the performer, to make it entertaining, tell a story or tug at the emotions. THAT is what makes it more than a trick...that's what makes it MAGIC.
