Tim is carving one of his new "Ultimate" figures for me. He's going to be a gangster named Louie "The Lip" Levinson. I'm posting progress pictures on my website of Louie as he progresses here:

I'm grateful to Tim for doing this and envious of all you guys who are carving your own figures. My skills in this area are nil.
Alas, I have a hard enough time carving the Thanksgiving turkey.

Go, Giants!

How did this process begin with you and Tim. Were sketches made and and mechanics discussed?

Louie is based on the first of a new line of characters that Tim is producing. He posted a photo of the original one on Facebook, and the figure was almost immediately purchased by someone else. I spoke to Tim about some ways I wanted to change the character for myself, and he is incorporating those changes. Regarding the mechanics, they will be Tim's standard ones except for a new eyebrow idea that he and I worked out together.

This process is a different from how I've worked with Bill Nelson. There, I described the character and Bill did sketches which he modified until he and I agreed on the final drawings. Then he started sculpting.

Incidentally, I've been very pleased with Tim's responsiveness and timetable. Unlike some other Tim, Mr. Cowles will have my figure completed in 3 weeks. So stop back often to look at the progress pictures.

I've met Tim a few times at Venthaven. He's both a talented artist and performer. His wife Amanda is one of the best puppeteers I've seen.

New photos from Tim showing an effect we worked out together. His eyebrows go one up, one down. Notice how this movement gives the character a rather smug look on his face. This fits perfectly with his character.

I got to try out a second hand Tim Cowles figure in a magic shop once, it was just beautiful (I should have bought that darn figure then and there), Tim is a wonderful artist. I'm sure your new partner will be brilliant Bob.
