Hi,
For all of you, I use the Johnson Products 2 Copper, Silver set. I also use a set of CSB that was made by Todd Lassen. I like the use of real coins and the Johnson/Sasco/Sterling/Guitar sets all use IMO a phony looking Chinese Coin. Thanks for your interest. Regards, Paul |

One thing about having a fake Chinese coin is that you can get a moment of comedy out of it.
Look at it doubtfully and say, "Apparently this one's from The People's Replica of China." Another line, used with a wink to acknowledge the cornpone factor, is to look through the hole in the Chiinese coin as you display it and say, "This one has a hole clear through it, for Peking." (Jim Lewis uses this line in his great Foreign Exchange routine for CSB.) Cheers, Jerry |

The line I use for the fake coin is, "The characters on the Chinese coin say 'Made in Japan'."

The Johnson copsilbrass set was the first set of coins I ever bought after the Cop/Sil coin. I love the set but after watching Gary Kurtz use them in a routine I thought to myself ......you know I remember when I first saw magic demos and saw our tools of the trade and thought "what kind of coins are those;I never saw them before." Then I got to thinking in layman's terms.......most people never see foreign coins up close, let alone out of date ones, so they are automaticlly curious. To that end I realize why in coin magic just about everyone wants to examine the coins. Part of it is curiosity and the other part is we handle coins everyday and what he/she just did is impossible. So I now use the C/C/S set only. I felt it was less attention drawn to the coins as they are all real coins, the chinese coin isn't real. Real chinese coinage is much smaller in most cases and is made of bronze or zinc, etc. not machined brass with nice neat black laquer finish. There is one saving grace if I decide to use the C/S/B other than the color contrast which IS great and that is Doc Eason's handling of it (which I thought was genius) he calls is a Chinese rikshaw token and the byplay with what the glyphs mean is terrific!!

I ordered mine from The Magic Warehouse, got two because they were so cheap. I cut out the zippers and they work just fine.
Go here: http://www.themagicwarehouse.com/supplies.html and scroll down almost to the bottom of the page. I use parts of my Johnson Hopping Halves set and 2 English Pennies. Great effect!! Bill Beach |
