To be fair, it is entirely possible that they have a bad batch and are genuinely unaware that it is of inferior quality.

I don’t know; I think it is an anomaly - perhaps the quarter size somehow causes or contributes to the breakage. I have a half dollar DD Deluxe and a half dollar Triception, both using thread on the flippers, and they have been perfect so far. The Half $ DD Deluxe having been used for almost a year and the Triception having been used for about two or three years (Ever since the Triception set was initially released), and they are still on the original thread with no breaks.

Oh your offer in your signature expired two months ago, also not very professional. I've been performing this at both of my restaurant residencies for a few weeks now and it absolutely FRIES people. Seriously, guys, in the final phase, when your spectator pulls their had away and they are holding a quarter in their hand, the look on their face is so incredible to watch. I know that as magicians, we feed off of our audiences' reactions. We love the ooo's and ahh's, the screams, and the smiles... And believe it or not, this effect will NOT get you that kind of reaction. The most common reaction this will elicit, believe it or not, is absolute, perfect silence. Your spectator (the one that plucks the coin) is left completely speechless. THEY just did the magic. They FELT it happen. They have NO IDEA how they did it. It's like their brain short circuits. They are frozen, silent, and completely blown away. I swear... it's like something changes in them. You can actually, VISIBLY see their reasoning and logic fade away, and they are left with no other option but to start wondering, "Did this guy actually just do REAL magic..? And for that matter... DID I???" It's priceless.
Trust me, you will feed off of it... and you will be very, very well fed. As for the folks with concerns about receiving flawed or defective coins, obviously mistakes happen, but I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure if it will be corrected if you contact your supplier or Mark personally. He's a really stand-up guy and would not be happy to know that you are not happy. He came and lectured at the Kutztown Magic Convention, which is held annually by IBM ring (#57). He asked me if I would stand at his table with him and help him sell his stuff after his lecture. Of course, I said, "Heck yeah, man!" His lecture ended, and not even twenty minutes later, we had sold everything he had. He thanked me for my help and asked me for my address. Four days later, a package showed up at my door containing over $250 worth of JB Magic products. I've got to tell you, I was blown away. Not only because I got all of those awesome effects for free, but also because it was so refreshing and inspiring to know that one of my personal heroes in the magic community is such an incredibly nice, decent, down to earth dude. So if there is a problem, don't fret, guys! Merry Christmas!!! Click here to view attached image. |

I think the reason you don't have an uproar is because Mark Mason has a reputation of high quality products and this is no exception. The band can break, but it is less likely to break, and it is designed to be repaired. I'm just fumbling in trying to repair it with my two large left thumbs. I'll get to repairing it, or I'll have someone with smaller fingers repair it. When I was a small kid, my mother would ask me to thread her needles because I had better eye sight and small nimble hands. Maybe I'll get my daughter to help me fix it. I have been using the half dollar version a LOT and it has not broken. In spite of the break in the quarter, this is by far, my favorite coin prop. KJ |

I just ordered the Half Dollar - Confused as it has not arrived yet. I ordered it on Monday! Why can't it just APPEAR!!??
Based on your posts I cannot wait. Hopefully it will arrive today. I've had flippers before but the rubber band always goes south at the wrong time. Thanks to all for your posts and knowledge.
Thank you...

Just received a '64 Kennedy DDD special order set and it's beautifully made!! I couldn't tell the difference between the two coins. I also have the quarter set and it's perfect. Love the idea of a "non-breakable" flipper. One less thing to worry about.

If anyone else is having trouble repairing, I'll share what worked for me. After a couple hours of tinkering, it finally "clicked," and now I'm sure I could do it again in about five minutes. The two main problems I had were getting the line into the groove and difficulty getting the knot to go into the crevice without coming untied.
The mistake I was making with getting the line into the groove was that I didn't realize how deep the groove actually is. I thought you were just supposed to place the line in there - kind of like how Mark does on the big one on the DVD. But no, you have to stretch it hard and get it deep inside there, one side at a time, and then work the line up the piece until they fit together. Getting it deep into the groove helps hold it in place as you do the other side. The second mistake I was making was with the knot. I think after my gimmick broke, I was too afraid of breaking the line, and I simply wasn't pulling the knot tight enough. On the time where I finally got it to work, the double knot was all the way inside the groove, with just the ends hanging out. Rather than trying to move the knot into the tunnel (the tunnel is pretty narrow on the quarter version), I just used the edge of a playing card to tuck the ends into the groove. Good as new! The other thing I realized is about what broke it. It really is hard to break the line by just stretching it, but I was using the pivot action to try to stretch the line out, and there are some sharp edges at that pivot point. Now I stretch it by pulling the two pieces away from each other so as not to create contact with any sharp edges. Hopefully this can help someone cause that was pretty frustrating there for a while!

How do I know how much elastic to use. I'm using a Morgan, and it needs to be tighter than the others because of the weight.

I'm thinking of getting this but watching the trailer, it seems very suspicious when the hands go below the silk to "do the business". Anyone got any comment to this ?

Thanks J-mac. you know I'm very much a hobbyist and "perform" mostly for friends and family. They are by far the worst when it comes to asking questions and wanting to examine "things"
