Recently I have had a few people asking me about the video on Youtube" The pound shop spirit bell", and wether its something I have released as a download. Well, the answers no. Well, not yet anyway, as I thought that teh method used was a bit obvious. I will post the link to the video tonight, unless somebody else can pop on and link to it for me.
I am glad that people have found it interesting enough to comment on. and should anybody want to know more.. please feel free to post questions here. |

The story that I had in mind for this, was an iteresting one.
The drinking cup,and small glass flaggon was used by the man responsible for sounding the Alarm at a coal mine. He was partial to a nipp now and again when he worked the night shift. For some reason his bosses turned a blind eye to his evening tipples. One fatefull night, he had drained the small flaggon dry,and as a result put his head down for a while. alas, that's when his trouble started.Far bellow him, the mine collapsed, killing many men, and destroying many families. from that day He vowed to never touch another drop, and as a reminder of the event, he kept the flaggon, and the cup, and the pencil with which he had to tick off the names of the dead. It is said that strange things happen on the aniversary of the tragic night.. the cup, rings out one ring for every soul lost. |

Well, I did not get how the "a bit obvious" method is done.
I both thought of magn... and of IT, but am not sure at all... And as "real" spirit bells cost hundreds of dollars OF COURSE I would like to learn how to built one cheap myself. |

I feel the method is pretty obvious, But I do like the simplicity of the openly assembled apparatus abnd ending clean.
I also like the suggested story line shared by Dale Shrimpton, I mightuse a clear plastic pen, the glass decanter and a glass rather than metal cup. the clink of glass on glass is crisp and almost musical, just my thoughts on things. Kotah |

The important thing is, the point of the pen or pencil, stands proud of the top of the decanter. This particular one. is actually a small vase I found in a skip. But I have seen some in charity shops.

Dale, I understand the mechanics of the apparatus. The pencil/ or pen ties in with the taking of the names.
I wasn't trying to build a better mouse trap, let's just forget I mentioned anything. For myself , I might lean toward the drinking angle. maybe even use a glass rod or swuzzlw stick rather than a pencil. I fancy the notion of using see through props. Kotah |

Just a note to let you know that I have decided to publish the full details of this in the next Mystic Menagerie. In my experiments with this, I found a couple of things work better if you do it in a particular way.. So, watch this space

The method is clear...to magicians. Not necessarily to a layman.
Using a small crystal wineglass would make a nice ring. Love the storyline! Andre
