I've been addicted to my table for years. I want to get 1 or 2 more effects that don't need a table. I do sharpshooter, misers dream and signed bill to impossible location. I don't care for rope, I like knife thru coat, but in the summer nobody in KC wears a coat- too hot. I want it to be able to fit in a Dr. Bag too. I hope to find a challenge/game type situation that I can pull in the audience or have them chirping. . . . any other suggestions, dvds or ???
Thanks -Gizmo |

I'm not sure if there is anything you can do on the table that you cant do on the ground. Even cups and balls.... SO really, I don't think there is a difference.
Multiplying bottles, Slydini flying knots/bottle production etc, etc.. If you need elevation and more visibility, I have thought about inviting 2 spectators up to hold a board as your table, so you don't have to have to carry a stand. also having 2 spectators could make a larger production... Just my thoughts. |

Egg bag, cards across, tossed out deck, nearly any escape, Pete Wardell does a coins thru table with two specs holding his table, Slydini silks, blockhead ( if you must!), linking rings, I wouldn't discount rope... love my rope routine.
Just a few that sprang to mind. Personally I like to use my table... sort of establishes my performing area as "mine" but I do admire those tabe-less, out of the pockets guys. tom

Multiplying bottles needs a table and doesn't fit the criteria of no table.
Working on the ground is great for a younger limber person (or a very limber old phart). The criteria of stand-up, no table and good for the street (with its bad angle issues) is easy to meet without compromise. Those tricks/routines would include: Self-unknotting handkerchief's Charley Edwards or Slydini. Charley Edwards routine predates Slydini by a couple of decades and was performed by Charley on the streets of London (it's in Routined Manipulation) Egg Bag; any of the different versions will do. Miller/Malini with the Ken Brooke routine, Lewis made Mardo bag with Martin Lewis routine (which is an abbreviated version of the Mardo) routine or do the Marlo version (yes THAT Marlo!). Linking Rings; either Whit Haydn's brilliant made for the streets four ring routine or Chris Capehart's equally brilliant three ring routine or a full 8-ring routine using a number of spectators (Levant/Benson) Ropes: Everlasting rope by Pat Page (great crowd gathering trick or Sandsenational rope trick (cut and restored without ever using up the rope - killer routine for the streets or anywhere). Professor's Nightmare For a little danger try Iron Garrote; see my routine posted some years ago here on the Café. I have used it exclusively on the streets and at biker gatherings (yes I am one). Or use a simple un-gimmicked rope through woman. These are spectator involvement tricks and make your show look huge!! I could go on and on. All of these basically reset themselves at the end of the routine. None (except the rings) take up much space in a small bag. Simply tie the rings together with a bandana and dangle from your belt as you walk to the pitch and tie to the handle of the bag while working (they won’t walk off that way).

Also, an "in the hands" version of fast and loose fits your challenge/game desire for a no table effect.
I have a large gold chain, that I use as an impromptu effect, whenever I find myself unexpectedly with a crowd, and no table. The good part about performing without a table, is that you can work around the pitch. The bad news is there is no anchor/focus point for you to gather them around. Good audience management skills are required all the more, without that anchor point. But this is just my experience, and your mileage may vary. The Doctor

You can anchor two spectators by asking them to hold the corners of a bandana stretched out flat, then do the three balls in the net, or do a Benson bowl/hat.
Other sponge ball tricks can also be done stand-up style.
Nothing would get done at all, if man waited so long that no one could find fault with it.

Quick realease hand cuffs like these are good fun. http://www.magicbox.uk.com/quick-release-handcuffs.html
You can hold your hands up high and have a spector jacket cover you hand. At the end your still cuffed yet wearing his jaket. I saw a guy do this and his hat line was to get this guys jacket back it will cost every one 5pounds.
Enjoy your magic,
and let others enjoy it as well! |
