The respectful way for RS to handle the matter would have been sending an email notice to Batsmagic describing their concerns as a warning.

I have a question. I am not trying to be negative; I would really like to know. At some point in time I assume the owners of these effects will perform them in public. Is there some sort of limitation? For instance, would it be a violation to perform a RS effect on television? Would that be too much exposure? If the magician says "I got this effect from Real Secrets," has he violated the arcane rules? This is becoming bizarre.

I am amazed at the length of this thread. Which comes out to be the same things said over and over. But now that one item of RS has been delivered, we shall see about 41 more pages of similar stuff, with just a little bit of different flavor.
Boils down to this, for those who don't want to read it all: Magician #1: RS will rock. Magician #2: RS won't rock. Magician #1: RS' first shipment rocks! Magician #2: RS' first shipment doesn't rock! Repeat above conversation for 41 pages. For a project that is Secret, there is amazing amount of chatter. Anyway. Batsmagic, I'm not sure I follow RS reasoning for booting you out of the club but I hope you find a way back in as this is very early in the game and there is a lot more things to come. I'm hoping the website will get some content on it at last and a private forum would be a nice touch.
I have changed my tune on the first RS effect that was sent to us after sleeping on it. I didn't see it at first but I came up with a presentation that fits me and it will definitely be fun for any spectator to take part in. So now that I've had a chance to think it through I'm actually excited about showing this around this weekend.
Pick a card, any card at all. Just don't pick a RED spade.

Sevenup- well, like I said- I don't understand it either. Believe me, I had NO INTENTION of getting kicked out! And I still LIKE THIS PROJECT! So far comments are about 50% saying I'm a Rat Fink, and 50% saying they don't understand it. I think I will get back in- I know reliable (for re-shipping) people in 3 other states that I can re-apply with. But I will have to think about it now! PS- Get yourself into the "Rat Fink" camp before they boot you out too!

I'm somewhat confused by RS treatment of BatsMagic and agree with Bill that a warning would have been a lot friendlier.
I do think that Bats you didn't describe the effect but, for the non committted like me you definitely said enough to confirm to me that not being in RS wasn't going to be of huge detriment. In summary I know you get three sheets of instructions, 30 refill gimmicks and an effect that isn't wholely new, if indeed you can call it an effect -- not hugely inspiring for their first offering. |

I don't think anyone here has called or implied that BatsMagic is a Rat Fink and to be honest, I don't think anyone here knows why RealSecrets may have cancelled his membership. It's all speculation. I agree that if RealSecrets were to cancel someones membership, it seems that the fair thing to do would be to let them know why. Of course, people also get booted from the Café daily with no explanation.
I'm also not sure how RealSecrets would be able to link someone here on the Café to their RealSecrets membership based on their username. Mike |

Maybe the RS folks are trying to set an example with Batsmagic - it is an inexpensive way really of attempting to tamp down too much chatter.

It seems a shame that anyone posting under their real name (or who discloses their name, email address etc) runs the risk of being banned, whilst anyone else could post whatever they wished with impunity.
I would say that whilst 'real secrets' has only made three posts, they are watching this thread very carefully, as evidenced by Batsmagic being kicked out and James' very quick reinstatement (and bless you James for your continued optimism, and generally entertaining posts). I was expecting the reactions to the installment to be incredible, perhaps this needs to be seen as a marathon rather than a sprint, in a few months we shall see what the general verdict is (or maybe not). |

Batsmagic, I NEVER called you a "rat". I believe you to be a passionate, kind person. I actually have no idea why you were kicked. I will post what I believe happened BUT this does not contain any blame or supposition of wrong doing.
My gut feeling is this: You posted what type of effect it was You posted the credits of the effect A trend started for other subscribers to make comments about "If you added this..... It is just like that effect ....." Maybe that is why. Personally, I don't want any subscribers talking about ANY details other than good or bad. Sure, non subscribers will say we are selfish. Subscribers can't let non subscribers bait them into posting too much. Once again, I am truly sorry about your being refunded. I do not think you are a "rat". James
