I'm just a curious neutral observer and looking to see how this all shakes out.

Gaffed, what do you think of the RS show so far?

Ha ha, nice one! I was referring to the 'reviews' of the first trick along with RS' approach to refunding members deemed unworthy.

That's my point...if he hadn't posted his name and address on the RS site -- then warned people here, under his Café handle, not to do that -- RS never would've known which of their subscribers "BatsMagic" was, and he probably wouldn't have been dropped for posting about the first RS release (if that's why he was dropped, and I do think it's the most likely explanation). Put another way, some other Café member whose real name RS doesn't know could've done exactly what Bats did, and he wouldn't have been dropped...because RS would've had no way to know which subscriber was the culprit. I agree that the lengths to which RS is going to keep its material secret constitute an interesting experiment...maybe even an admirable one. But the fact that they dropped BatsMagic shouldn't be taken as evidence that RS will be able to police every subscriber and prevent others from revealing their Real Secrets.

Just how does RS deem someone as not up to their standards, or “whatever”, when they know NOTHING whatsoever about you? Very confusing to say the least. As for the reviews; they seem pretty well mixed so it’s pretty hard to make any honest assessment. Then again, I obviously have no idea what is being reviewed! Well....so far as I can assure you that will change as time goes by. lol

Wouldn't it be nice if the subscribers to RS would just honor their agreements? No need for policing. Just all members do what they promised?
All the speculation is toward the negative side of human nature. I believe if people are allowed the freedom to control themselves, they will, for the most part. In the morning I teach very young children English. My youngest student is two years old. I try to create an English environment using magic, stories and props. I set up a lot of situations requiring sharing and self control on the part of the child. It's funny how small children will learn much quicker when they are not being pushed and prodded, grabbed and directed by their parents. Maybe RS will be similar. I feel that RS is not only something fresh and fun, but an incredible social experiment. I wonder what will happen? James Quote: On 2012-04-05 20:07, FrenchDrop wrote:

But I'm not really even saying RS needs to police all of its subscribers (or those who are "deemed unworthy" ); I'm just saying that anyone who believes RS can do that is mistaken. About the great majority of their subscribers, I'm sure, Real Secrets knows virtually nothing beyond a name, an E-mail address, and a mailing address.

I actually hope time will "not" tell. The best thing would be for RS subscribers to feel the value of secrecy, and become tight lipped.
James ps I really do miss sirbrad. I feel he brought a certain edginess to the thread. Hopefully he will return soon. Quote: On 2012-04-05 20:29, gaffed wrote:

There is a big difference between edginess and babbling childish narcissistic diatribe. I think he proved that when he stated that we would all eventually “bow” down to him. Obviously the kid has a serious problem which the Café eventually saw and is in need of professional help which I sincerely hope he gets.

Well, I disagree. Online life and real life are so different. I don't think he has any serious problems. Nothing more than any of us have.
Out of control passion. Everyone here is guilty of inappropriate behavior at one time or another. We are not our behaviors. They are simply affectations that we all adopt and shed as situations arise. There are four models of thinking: I'm ok, you're ok I'm ok you're not ok I'm not ok you're ok I'm not ok you're not ok I choose I'm ok, you're ok. Makes life much easier and pleasant for me. Yes, by all means behavior on a forum site and real life are definitely a tad different and is one of the failings of any given forum site. Believe me as I own and run one albeit it is not magic related. However, I’m sure you’ll have to agree that there are certain limitations. I’m OK, and you’re OK....

As gaffed has indicated, all sorts of personalities show up on any internet message board. I would sincerely hope that some of these people are not the same in real life as they appear in the forums. I believe there is a subcategory called "I'm more than just OK and you're an idiot." On my screenwriters board I have witnessed complete amateurs challenging the competence of seasoned professionals with major film credits.
As far as RS goes, I can see that it must be a minor bit of torture for the subscribers not to be able to discuss their secret stuff. Hopefully the people in charge will give them a place to chat. I wonder what we will remember about this whole thing ten years from now.

If you thought SirBrad was bad, compared to these guys, he was almost a little ray of sunshine.
http://www.magicbunny.co.uk/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=53428 They've got some seriously sad, self-important, jealous, resentful folks over there. And yes, billmarq, I think it is indeed a minor bit of torture! Hopefully they do create a place for members to share! LOL |

Well, I have always been the same person. You only judge from a tiny, tiny, tiny showing of my personality.
I also think you exaggerate a bit but we all do. Unless you are talking about 2009-2010. We almost lost our house it was so bad, and yes, I was a bit of a !@#$% to say the least. AND... We are ALL OK! James ps Tom, Spot on Brother, hit the lights let's get this show on the road! I am ready to "Be here now". Quote: On 2012-04-05 22:59, gaffed wrote:
