You know, I saw this performed live and also on TV. On TV, it looked a little cheesy, but pretty good overall.
Live on stage, it seemed a bit "angly" and the gaff was *very* apparent. It just didn't look too good at all and I was dead center about halfway back in the audience. Didn't much care for it.

In regards to the other person that was doing it without permission: I (and many others, I'm sure) had advised Kenner that the person was doing the routine. What made it even more sickening is that the person was using the same movements, music, etc. It's always sad when people do things like this. Not sad that they would do it really, but sad that they are that pathetic to do it in the first place, especially without changing it, and making any improvements to make it their own.

Does anybody know when Fearson will come out with a sawing like this one that can be done surrounded?! Many magicians perform venues where they're surrounded, and would love to perform one like that. It would be so cool!!

This is the best illusion I've seen Copperfield perform, ever.

I guess I don't watch enough TV. I've never seen DC do this effect. Is there some place on the web to see a video of it? Or can someone tell me what show it is on and I'll watch for a rerun.
Thanks, - Britt

It's on Copperfields "Tornado of Fire" special.
It looks especially bad when he takes it outside and attempt to perform it on the street "Blaine-style". Watch his shadow and it tips the gaff! It's a very, very, angly effect that doesn't play well live, but the TV camera really helps it out.

I will replay the street performance of the effect to watch the shadow. Anyway, that’s an incredible effect and all my great admiration to Mr. Fearson. Talking about the best illusion in the "Tornado of Fire" show, I think "Voyeur" is the greatest transposition effect ever in the story of magic, a beautiful appearance of the two girls. It’s amazing.

Yeah, man, I got to see "Voyeur" in person, and it's even much better now than it was when they taped that special. He took "Laser" out of the show, but he does a longer version of "Voyeur". When the women vanished at the show I saw, they were not even toward the back of the stage or on a platform, they were right in the middle of the stage and toward the front edge, and he just whisked the blanket in front of them and they were gone. He didn't still do the reappearance the same way though. He just threw the cloth over the bed-looking thing and voila, they were back. But it still looked great.

He used Johnny Eck (the famous half man who can be seen in Todd Brownings "FREAKS"), his complete twin brother Robert, and a dwarf wearing a costume that made him look like a pair of normal trousers, to perform the most amazing and amusing version of the sawing-in-half illusion ever. Having a top half of the assistant chase his lower half around the stage is something I would have like to have witnessed first hand.

I hate it how they never show magic on T.V. in Australia. But I saw the laser illusion live in his show, so that was good.

I have read that Mr. Fearson did that illusion (the Laser one) on Japanese TV years ago, and he used to call it "Splitting image". I have not found more clues about that.

I wished he stuck to using "Twist in My Sobriety" for the background music of Voyeur instead of Moby's "Movin' On".
As for the women not reappearing the same way live, I'd assume its one of those things that prove its a well known fact that any sane magician would want his material to look better for TV. Laser is beautiful, but if he sells the rights to the magic community, and if someone ever gets around doing it. And then that person gets nervous, fumbles or starts to get a leg cramp =
I would, however contest that there is in REALITY very little pportunity to perform what could actually be termed "close-up" magic.

I've seen his show when he was touring in Canada just a few months ago and his show was just awesome, I went with a few people from my local IBM club. that's to bad DC bought the rights to Fearsons laser effect.

We have a new effect comming out called "Beside Yourself" which is a one man sawing in half illusion without the box. Similar to the Modern Art illusion but again without the box.
This is a new take on this classical effect including a brand new method. It is much different than the Fearson Laser illusion also. Nothing else out there like it! This is something that is very portable and very affordable, not to mention it just looks weird!!! We will be releasing this new illusion at the end of January. P.

I'm suprised that no one has mentioned the effect called "pocket sawing in half". If your not familiar with it just goto http://www.hocus-pocus.com/magicshop/ and do a search for it.
It's the only thing I've found that is on the market, and look's similar to DC's illusion. It also claims that it can be done surrounded. Anyone perform this or know who the creator is? MM
