Hi everyone!
A couple of weeks ago, I saw a great street artist performing a trick which reminded me of the "Paper Balls Over the Head" routine. It's probably because it requires a similar way of using misdirection since the principal is quite the same; The chosen spectator doesn't have a clue how the trick is done whereas the rest of your audience is well informed about everything at every single moment. However, surfing the internet I found this video by Derren Brown by chance who presents the exact same trick in one of his series: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5pG4ysYF6Y Of course, you can't turn off the lights outside that easily. That is why the magician asked the spectator to close his eyes each time he moved the ring. Although it sounds a bit like a typical idea of a very beginner to ask your spectator to close his eyes while you perform a trick it doesn't ruine the trick at all. - It get's even stronger because they can actually "feel the ring passing through their body".. I think it's a really nice piece of magic but I simply don't know how it's called. If you know the trick (and I guess there must be a lot of people who know it ) let me know! Thanks for any advice, 1ukas |

Are you speaking of this 50 year old trick, Corinda's Powers of Darkness.
http://www.magicinc.net/corindaspowersofdarkness.aspx 3 rings and they pass through the spectators arm and such, to go through his body, a hula hoop would have to be used. Kind of large hoop. Yes, the lights stay on as the person even in the classic version closes his eyes. If the lights were turned out, how would the audience see what is going on. You do have the premise correct. Mike Cavney also sells his version using coat hanges. http://www.mcmagicwords.com/tricks_powers.html So there you have it, it is available from either source. Darren Brown has the gift of story telling, and a big build up. It does come with full directions, not Darren Brown's instructions but Corinda's from Magic Inc. |

Thank you very much! It's exactly what I was looking for.
Knowing it was Corinda who came up with it makes me feel a bit foolish.. However, you really helped me a lot! @wmhegbli: I originally meant the psychological effect on the women, aroused by the touch on her left, immediately followed by the touch on her right. -> It gave her the feeling that the ring must have gone right through her body.. I think I just used the wrong words in my first description.. Thank you anyways! |

Glad to be of assistance, and all we have here on the forums is our words to communicate.
Now I see what you mean. |
