Hey All,

I am increasingly intrigued by Helder Guimaraes's work, yet have none of it. Between Small Miracles, Red Mirror, Ontology Project and Reflections (and anything else I've missed), what have you enjoyed the most and what do you think represents his best work?

I searched around a bit and have read some brief reviews of the different projects, but no comparisons to get me started.

Let me know what you think.

This is all great material. His analysis of effect construction in the book "Reflections" is amazing. There aren't any weak effects and many, many strong ones. Helder's take on Triathlon is worthy indeed. (Found in Small Miracles)

These are the seven and in addition, there are two bonus routines:

His Blank Deck & Triumph/Color changing deck routines are both excellent.

It seems like Small Miracles and Reflections are people's favorites so far. Anybody like Red Mirror or the Ontology Project or do the former two seem to be better?

I've just got Small Miracles and it's very good. Gotta admit I've never actually started working on any of those routines. Require also some mid-advanced techniques ...

To be fair, despite the widespread indignation about the opening of *Red Mirror*, Helder doesn't prohibit you from performing his material. This came up in a conversation at the Castle two weeks ago, and he was very clear: he just wants you to make the trick your own, and not simply to parrot his presentations.

I bought the Ontology Project just to get the cards to do The Sympathetic 13. Well worth it.

And I agree with that statement, and I respect him for clarifying that,

His card to wallet is the best I have ever seen. I watched the performance about 20 times and had absolutely no clue how it worked before I went to the explanation. I'll be seeing him lecture next week in Chicago and really looking forward to it.

I just won't buy a book with that type of license.
This kinda thing was started by Michael Weber with "Lifesavers"
and continued by Bruce Cervon in "Ultra Cervon". Bah.

Steven,

There is no "license" to speak of in Helder's case. You can see my post in response to this issue above. I think the sentiment behind Helder's statement is something you'd probably agree with yourself.

I only have red mirror and Reflections. I like red mirror more, however, Reflections should represents his thinking most.

I'm working my way through Reflections and so far so good! It is fascinating to see how his mind works when analyzing a routine. As to the so called "Performance rights" how in the world would Michael Weber, Helder, or anyone else who does that silly stuff know that I performed their effect? My clients are lay people who have no idea the source of my material. Just interesting how someone can write a book or produce a DVD and then say you can learn it but not perform it.
