So I'm finally getting ready for my subtrunk build. Going to be a packing crate style. Basically going to use the Osborne (or whoever's) method of the top ****.
I'm looking for advice as to the thickness of the metal plates for the sliding bol*s. I was thinking steal plate of 3/16 thick? Or has aluminum been used? Thanks for any advice. Jim

I don't' think it needs to be that thick.. the steel plates are just to keep the bolts from digging into the wood over time.. they don't need to hold any real weight.. other than the weight of the T#$P.
PS.. sliding bolt&$? I don't remember any of those sliding... wood does.. but not hardware. PS.. make the top planks wider apart.. it will allow you to make the top piece bigger.. and no matter your size.. it will ALWAYS make the transpo faster. Bigger, in the is case, is definitely better. |

I remember making a few of these with sliding bolts. But I am not familiar with the Osbourne plans. 3/16 should be good

I guess it's the plates that slide with the wood while the bolts stay put. I'm going to make the a plate for each of the pivot bolts too out of the same plate material.
Thanks! Jim

I agree with makeupguy. Top planks being wider is an advantage. In a hurry in the dark with your hands full, makes an extra 2" very welcomed.
