Hi,

In your opinion, what would be the best self vanish to use ?
Usually I'm not in grand illusion, but for my next stage act, it would be so nice if I could fade away from view ^^

Ideally I may not use box of any sort...

But maybe I'm asking for real magic lol !

Anyway, if you can help with ideas I thank you in advance !

Best regards,

Much would depend on your venue. But, I have used a BA method involving a French door, with a curtain dropped on the front. Owen used to make a Door Illusion that was similar in appearance, but with a different method.

Of course, both involve sizable apparatus, but neither is a box.

Thanks for the input, Michael.
Any additional info about Owen Door illusion ?
By MP if you want.

I also would be interested in learning more about French Door...

Spellbinder has a good BA vanish on his site called the "Vampire Levitation/Vanish".

Really, any self vanish is going to require either BA, trap doors or serious apparatus.

The most important part of a self vanish is the reappearance, so you can collect your check if for no other reason. But to make the vanish complete, you need to reappear. The most exciting illusions of this type are where you reappear somewhere else, usually quite a distance from where you disaparated. For this you need to not only vanish, but escape unseen from where you disaparated and run unseen to where you will be reappearing. A good, and relatively inexpensive combination of effects for this can be found in Jim Gerrish's PVC Pipe Illusion Book 1, starting with his Utility Cabinet used as a vanish device and combined with his Garden Gate illusion for your invisible exit. The important question is, will the stage upon which you are working allow you to get to a backstage area that will in turn allow you to run around to the rear of the audience to make a flashy reappearance?

Will there be assistants on stage or are you talking like in the Tony Curtis, Houdini movie, you stand center stage, through a cloth over you and an it drops to the floor. Tony Curtis later appears in the audience and puts a tomato in the hecklers face.

David Copperfield is the only magician I have seen that comes close to this scenario. I don't think any of his methods are available.

The experts on the Café would know better then I.

@Spellbinder Thank you for the input !

@wmhegbli I'm alone on this act, so no assistant.
Some gentlemen have PMed me with really great ideas, so I think I have quite a clear idea of what to do right now...

Thank you all !
