Hey all,

Been thinking about getting a new dove stand (the one I use now was put together in a rush..) and I don't really like it that much.
I'm not really a master builder.. or even a ..builder, but maybe I could make some notes and drawings, have that made into a 3D model and bring it to a metal shop..

I don't like putting the birds in a cage, they have to sit freely..
One idea that I've had is; you all now the metal wire art? Well, have a sturdy 'tree' made from thick metal wire, so it won't lose shape and have area's in there for the birds to sit on, but downside is, it would be very unpractical..

Please , all suggestions are welcome, also, if you show me yours, I'll show you mine (THE STAND!)
If I could see some examples than I could come up with something nice, offcourse ,no copying..

edit: I really like this type, but offcourse, street lighting is very common..

I must say we have a large neighborhood that all the street lights are just like that.

Tim Star who is a metal expert made himself a beautiful bird stand of rings all welded together for his award winning dove act. It was gold rings and as I remember was sort of a diamond shape. It looked beautiful on stage. He told me that the whole thing could be taken apart and fit in a carry on bag with the rest of his dove act.

The stand should follow the theme of your act, not pick any old prop to use. It is better to design your props around the theme of your act, then to design an act around your props. Just a suggestion.

Actually, I don't think anyone can help you on this because it is so personal to the total.

Get me one? Haha

Yes, I understand.
It's just very hard to start from scratch and I'm not good at drawing things out..
The street light looks really nice and I believe it fits the act, but I'm worried as usual because many use this type of 'dove stand'.
Offcourse, Lance Burton comes to mind, and as soon as you have something that looks even a bit like what he does/did you are called a copycat..
Jeff McBride told me: He retired, so you're free to do as you please.

If I get the 'OK' from a few people here I might give it a try and see what's available.

Well, you have to look at your act.
Do you need a table, box or cylinder or flat surface?
Do you need a ditch bag for after use?

I once thought that some of the containers in a flower nursery shop would work good for a ditch container. The old plastic black cauldron pots, cut in half and attach to a flower trellis.

The plastic bird baths also gave me some ideas as being used as a table, just attach a board with wheels. A pole could be going up the center or even a fake tree. The birds could set on the branches of the tree.

The best way to find something is to go shopping. If you know your act, start going to different stores you would not normally visit and walk around. If you see items, try to visualize them as a stage prop. It is pretty hard to come up with an idea, when just staring at a plan sheet of paper when you have nothing to reference in your mind.

Of course, many of these items should be made to be easily transported. Thus some dis-assembly in design would be needed.
