I do not see the point of crashing The Justice System..... its already a wreck, is it not?
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

For every law PROTECTING you and your rights is a law taking it away. Do not confuse JUSTICE and the Law. Want to have fun? Look up any law for any crime imaginable. Now follow ALL the Case Law that is listed and you will find how it will always come down to a Judges APPLICATION of which law he chooses to use. The danger of course is you can be totally innocent of a crime and convicted because of the Law applied. It takes a special person to practice law. The more horrible the crime the less rights you will have (I'm talking if you are innocent). Yes you will have the basics like presumed innocent (translated the District Attorney gets to speak first and show what a great guy you are ---you only get one chance to make a first impression huh?) right to an attorney etc. But how your rights are handled and what is and is not allowed in a case is up to a Judge. Safety will trump your rights all the time. You may be innocent but proving that innocence can be difficult sometimes. that's why in horrible cases it can be a man is innocent and refuses a deal only to get convicted and spend decades in prison. When DNA came out there were more men released from prison that were cleared by the DNA tests that were in on rape and other horrible crimes than any other charges. They each stood at one time in a court room that was supposed to PROTECT them just as it protects the victims and were hung out to dry.
I once had the opportunity to interview a Victims Advocate Group member after a piece of Law was passed that gave the victims more power and took some weight away from the defendants rights. I asked if they thought by curtailing the rights of a defendant is it possible that you may just have caused someone to NOT get a fair trial that could clear them if they were innocent? His reply was "I had never thought of that." While I'm a firm believer in Victims Programs and all I also believe it is vital for someone to get a fair trial. It is always a miscarriage of Justice when an innocent man is convicted. Good magic to all, Eric |

In other news, I had my second interview at the District Attorney's office. So far, so good! But a lot of people competing for not a lot of spots.
