Hi all,
I have found a rather scary Oracle that can respond at the appropriate moments. Can anyone recommend a great mental effect that uses an Oracle? Maybe something with cards, objects, or Tarot. Thanks in advance! |

Isn't the fact you've got an oracle effect enough?

What do you mean by "Oracle?" Tarot cards are oracles, I-Ching is an oracle, rune stones are oracles. Any system or object used to perform divinations is an oracle. Even a person or a machine can be an oracle.
So what kind of scary oracle are you talking about? Good thoughts, Bob |

Hi All,
This Oracle is quite a new idea, but the closest thing is like a spirit bell that could ring at any appropriate time. So objects or cards could be presented to the Oracle and amazing things would happen, or not. I'm having trouble with the rest of the routine, and wondered if there are any books out there with ideas that might help. Thanks. |

Spooky little lie test? The fact that it's doing its thing should be as good as it gets...everything else just confirms that it works.

I'm kind of confused about what the question is. Are you contacting the spirits to do a card trick?
Track down Eugene Burger’s Spirit Theater. Pay close attention to his “one Knock” theory. And ask yourself why does the “oracle” WANT to participate with the test and build an effect from there. |

Here are the half baked ideas I have so far. There has got to be something stronger out there. When I say "card" below it could be pictures, tarot cards, or whatever, not necessarily playing cards.
The spectator could select a card, and the Oracle could react to that card when held up. The Oracle could divide a stack of cards or objects into two signifcant groups. The Oracle could identify a set of objects involved in a murder. (This is more like quarter baked) A prediction doesn't work very well. This is better for divination, where there is a series of decisions made by the Oracle. |

When you found the "scary oracle" what was it that made you decide to obtain it?
I have learned (the hard way) it is BEST to have an idea of what it is I wish to convey BEFORE I purchase a gimmick. Otherwise you are writing effects for an apparatus and not using an apparatus for an effect. In addition to my first suggestion I would like to add Lary Kuehn's The Bigger Book Of Boo! and Burger's Spirit Magic DVD. Get these items watch and read them and then you should have all the ideas that could possibly help you. Good luck! |

So basically you've bought a spirit bell of sorts and want a routine to use it in? is that the crux of the matter?
as Atticus said, eugene burger would be a fine place to start - and root through the section on here called Spooky...there's usually a goldmine of thoughts and plots in there for this kind of thing... all I would say is, work out in what environment this "oracle" first began in, and work backwards/forwards... plot out a history of the object and see where it takes you...the whats/why/hows will come with it...

Thanks all
This is something I'm building, I'll post some pictures when its ready I think there is a compelling back story for this but I also want it to be a great trick its interesting to see how some bizarre magic is re-purposed from the classics, white star comes to mind I'll keep you posted! |

Personally, I'd step away from the cards - and doing it too many times it becomes almost boring (burger says do something once and they'll remember it - paraphrasing so wisdom will be lost in translation!)...
so a five object psychometry based presentation would work well...five objects belonging to people in the audience, placed on the table infront of this oracle...asking a question or maybe two to the spirits... one is selected and you pass on a message and/or reveal info/answer a question that ties in the object to the participant...
