Hey, I find 1.5" and 1.75" very common in the silk to ball (Viking, Jeimin, etc.) but I would really like to find it in 2". Anyone know of a source for 2"?
Thanks. |

Could you not take a 1.75-inch ball and add bondo to make it bigger?

Good start Pete, but I'd go a step further to insure a really nice exterior. I would look for a 2 part ball that snaps together, like some of the plastic ornaments at Michael's. Find one of the size you want, and add a hole. Then build up around the silk to ball so that you can attach the larger "shell" around the other. paint the ball as needed.

Why not just shoot some of that expanding insulation foam from a can, and have it fill the area very quickly. Just have to keep the original ball centered, during the process.
It builds up it own inside diameter within seconds. Any excess can be trimmed away. Just a suggestion. |

1.75 might not be noticeable enough of a difference to compare to a 2" ball. I would not sweat it.

Good question, Peter, I've been looking too, although I am a bit wary of it failing during performance. I'm prepared to take the risk, if I can find one, and let it let me down just the once!
If I compare a 1.75 to a 2", there is, for some reason, quite a visual difference, which is why I moved to 2" BB's. I cannot explain why the additional 0.25 makes such a difference, but it does! I don't do anything special, but the extra 0.25 makes such a difference. I would also like to find some 3" nesting coins - any ideas? Dave

I agree, Dave. It does seem to make a difference. I don't want to hint "switch." As Pete, Michael, and Hegbli said - I may have to make my own... We'll see.
I have seen the 3" nesting coins. Let me do some back tracking and see if I can find some. |

Many thanks Bill, I did try a Google search, but I must not be as expert as you in using correct wording!
They seem to be only 2.25" - I would like the 3" size if possible. @Peter - thanks. Dave

Unless you are thinking of something totally different then the shell type coin. Do you have some other idea in mind? I can see how the shell can get in the way of some stage moves. Thus you may have to cut off part of the ridge to even make them work for say a push-up production. If these are to be used in a stand up routine, I really do not see that the difference would be noticed except to you. A large coin being produced is just that to an audience. I was going for something reasonably affordable. There are a few specially coin makers that can make you a set of 3" nesting coins. But again, not all the coins will be 3", because of the nesting feature. It all depends how you envision using them of course. Then the cost in British Pounds Sterling would be outrageous. |

Peter next time you see Mike Chao ask him for a silk to ball. His very good friend from Taiwan makes it and I am sure he can make it in any size you need. I heard that Jei Min also buys from him for his silk to rose gimmicks. I use 2 1/8 inch balls and none of those silk to balls matched my sets but I found that if you have an extra shell you can glue it to the silk to ball so it will look larger. I think that silk to ball has much more applications than to change a silk to the ball.

Thanks Bojan. I know Mike and Jei Min. Appreciate that idea also.

Thanks, Bill, for your reply.
I realize that the nested coins will not be exactly 3", I was hoping that, if they were made in metal, the difference in size would not be readily noticed. Unless these are already in existence, it may remain a pipe dream in view of cost, as you rightly mention. You could be right about using the 2.25' size, as, from a stage, they would stil be large coins. I guess the only answer is to send for those you mention, and see how they look. Again, your input is much appreciated. I am going to FISM in July and will be scouring the dealers for things. can't wait ! Dave
