So, what is it?
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |

I don't vouch for the methodology of the study at all! We had a few winners! Mr. Cassidy's two picks were excellent!

I'm surprised that we're 3rd. Pleasantly.
Not surprised that Idaho is near the bottom though.

Dang it, I meant New Jersey cuz one might associate the state with the organized crime types. I heard Rhode Island had a mobster for gov once.

This was a study by only one group - the "Center for Public Integrity, Global Integrity and Public Radio International." I would not necessarily accept their grades as the last word on the subject.

Just saying. I know nothing about the three organizations involved.

I personally find it difficult to believe that New Jersey is the least corrupt state. I believe the term, "pay to play" was coined in New Jersey. Jon Corzine would be a good person to ask.

I think it was actually conducted by the "Center for Public Integrity."
Quote:
Randy Barrett, the communications director for the Center for Public Integrity, told The Raw Story the criteria his organization used to assess state's grades. The Center for Public Integrity and Global Integrity are interlocking concerns: Quote:
Global Integrity began in June 1999 as a project of the Center for Public Integrity (a Washington, D.C. nonprofit investigative reporting organization) as an attempt to find a new way to investigate and assess corruption around the world and how governments address it. I think that Public Radio International was probably involved only as a funding source. The reliability of this state ranking from a group of unaccountable journalists is open to question. |

Woland, 1999 was a long time ago. More recently:
"In the summer of 2005, Global Integrity spun off from the Center as a separate organization and formally incorporated as a non-profit corporation."

It's predictable that when findings run contrary to one's own preconceived beliefs, the source of those findings must therefore be questionable.
There are detailed articles linked to on the site that give the specific details as to why each state received the rating it did. I haven't read all of them yet, but everything I've read so far indicates that this was a very thorough and balanced survey. Good thoughts, Bob |

Yes, of course. But these are basically interlocking organizations. And even if they weren't, they share the same Weltanschauung, don't you think?

Rather than just attacking the motivations of the source (which seems to be entirely non-partisan, given the many negative scores given to both "red" and "blue" states), why not provided sources pointing out what you feel is wrong with the survey?

I don't think there is anything "wrong" in the group's report, Bob. All I said, is that it is one group's report, and that the results are not necessarily to be cast in gold and worshipped.

I didn't see anyone casting anything in gold or worshipping anything either. I just see you minimizing the report for no stated reason.
