Every once in a while, something happens that makes all our toil and trouble seem worthwhile. In this specific instance, it has to do with affecting the life of a child. (Something we always strive to achieve in our school and library shows).

My wife and I were setting up for a birthday party show in a children's museum, when a 5-year old boy recognized me, ran over to hug me, and shouted out loud: "I love to read!" His Grandma, who was with him, said: "So THAT'S where he heard that!" It turns out this little boy had seen my reading program at a library six months before. Ever since then, his Grandma informed us, he's been wild about reading, taking stacks of books up to his room, and constantly saying "I love to read!"

Do you use the Airhead Rudy effect? Just curious.
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about? Smile

My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums.

Bob1Dog, I do use Air Head Rudy, but with my own modified script. Not sure if we did it for the above-mentioned show ... we usually reserve that routine for one of our school programs.

I've hit and missed with Airhead Rudy. The right age group is key to this effect and I'm wondering what age groups you target for it. I like five, six, seven and eight. Beyond that I'm not sure. What do y'all think?

We've had great results with grades K-5 at elementary schools (ages 5 to 10). Granted, the older kids might think it's a little "childish." But the secret is in giving Air Head Rudy a "real" character, so the kids can identify with him.
