As shown...I don't see the practicality.
You have to wave the phone over the card to read the NFC. If in the future there was an app that read imbedded NFC from a distance and could give you the lay of the table... Well that would be something. |

It works both ways: A card can be dealt over a phone, one under the table perhaps. Phones are getting good.
The furture, well the furture is the past: http://www.pokertronic.de/# about 5k Decks, about 100 bucks in the USA

The Pokertronics rig is a far cry from what I was talking about.
I think things get interesting like I said when a phone/app could pick up the NFC from anywhere on the table and in real-time give you the lay of the land. But, like you said though - phones are getting more powerful by the day and this may already be a reality. |

There is a device on the market that electronically reads the order of the deck from a distance and covertly relays this information. It has some cool game-specific features like outputting what seats will hold the top 2 hands in a hold'em game, razz, omaha hi-lo, 7-card stud, you name it. I've seen it in action with my own eyes and it was great. $2000.

NFS:
Sounds pretty cool. Is this tech coming out of China? |

Yes, from China. There were some minor aspects of cheapness that seems to be typical with most Chinese-made products, but overall it worked exactly as advertised and I saw no major flaw. Compatible with all cards too.

I have looked into NFC (Radio Frequency Identification) technology for marked cards and there are a few technical problems which exist.
1) Reading multiple cards simultaneously (stacked cards) (ie. reading 2-11 cards in a pile)...you need different chips and software for this 2) The playing cards are the major problem....no name brand cards 3) Most of the cards I have felt can be pretty good....while others can feel the microprocessor chip/dot. 4) Speed in multi-card NOTE: There is a cool chip which was made for currencies which can not be felt....but, it is next to impossible to buy these chips because they are made for government use.

I have a phone now with NFC, which only cost me 40 squid. My eight year old grandson though understands far better than I do about mobile phones and new technology and with his help I hope to get it working later. It seems quite simple in theory, as all that is required is for the user to simply slide the cards over the phone in order to make that phone make a call or send a text to another phone, that second phone can be located anywhere, I think. This NFC is a contactless technology and it works more like a magnet might than like a camera; It does not have to see the card in order to read it. I am hopping it will be able to read through a table. Sliding cards as one deals in common in Europe as croupiers use a table deal, particularly in high stakes games. Also a shoe is used in Chemmy and I am thinking along those lines. As someone once remarked, “To understand something you have play with it, right? Right!” That is all I am doing with it at the moment, for entertainment purposes only. The thing that NFS mentions above is a line sight technology which means having to have on the table the phone/reader. Its the fact they are putting these NFC readers in standard phones now that is new and makes me wonder about the possibilities it might offer to an enterprising magician.
"The playing cards are the major problem....no name brand cards" I am not sure what you mean Jeff but as I said said you can buy KEMs and so on with tags in for a $100. You can get a sample for free. Its not hard to make your own. Here is another little article about RFID: http://cardshark-online.blogspot.co.uk/2......rds.html
