Hello,
I am looking for an IT to create a touch on the spectators arm. So I don't need a elastic IT, but it would be possible to perform it with a elastic(but not superelastic) one. I have only Mesika's EIT, but I want to buy a more invisible thread. Is it true that a non-elastic thread is better than a elastic one, concerning visibility and shininess? I describe my situation: I usually perform at (crowded) clubs or bars and avoid direct light and black light. In many cases there is only some indirect ambient light from the bar. I have done some stuff with Mesika's EIT in the hands of other people and haven't ever got caught. Typically there won't be a great distance between other spectators and the person who receives the touch. So I am looking for the best IT concerning visibility and shininess, which is strong enough to create this effect. Can you recommend me one and, if you know Mesika's EIT, compare it to Mesika's EIT. Best regards key5 |

While we're at it, what are the DO's and don'ts for performing using this? I always want to try using Loops but worried about the premises, as I'm still clueless what kind of condition of the clothing, lightning, etc, so this can stay as invisible as it can be.
Thanks.

With your ambient conditons, I would use Kevlar thread. Should be totally invisible, plus it's very strong so you won't have to worry about breaking it on somebody's nose.

Lior Manor developed the Invisible Touch. You can make your own special something using "Legacy":

It is possible to do this with a leclair hook, if your length is right.

I've never had a problem with Woolly Nylon Serge or "Woolly Lock" made by Y.L.I.
As far as invisibility goes, I use a blue color that seems to be least visible. I tried black, and that worked too, but Steve Duschek recommended the blue with his Wunderbar all those years ago. It's all I've ever used regularly. Doug |

I'm still waiting on my Loops so I have no idea either it will work well. Kinda hoping I can use it for some routines.

I feel that the IT I use for the Raven is a little bit damaged, used. I want to replace it. I hesitate between "Vectra Virtuoso Expert Grade Invisible Thread" and "Legacy". I need IT that is both very invisible and strong. Which one would be recommended for the effect I'm doing ?
I'm also interested in the EZ Strip John Haar IT, since it's cheaper, but it only has very few reviews so I don't know what it worths. |

I wasn't aware that The Raven uses IT.

As you need very invisible and strong, probably best not to go with the Vectra Virtuouso, because while it is the most invisible, it is also likely the weakest (as IT goes), naturally. It is also not elastic, as you may know. Plain old Vectra is probably the strongest out there.
Legacy is elastic, and is good stuff, a lot of people like it. The John Haar is a good non-elastic IT, but for my money you'll get a lot more bang for your buck ordering a spool of wooly nylon. It is really all in how you manage it, anyway. Most of these choices can do you well, and you might even want to have a 2-3 different options at your disposal, depending on the varying lighting conditions you will sometimes find yourself performing in. Try a few of them and find out which you work with the best. They can all work just fine if you manage it properly.

I have The Raven and it doesn't use IT but instead it uses fishing line and an elastic.
I also use IT and IET and it would not work with The Raven.

Thanks for the replies. Indeed, Raven uses Woolly Nylon, rather than IT strictly speaking. In any case, a friend of mine who is a big fan of Mesika and performs levitation quite a lot (and also owns Raven), told me not to use IT, as it would break if I use Raven.

I am confused.
Are we talking about the same "Raven" http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/166 I only know of one. It comes In a black box with a Raven on the box. Woolley Nylon is only one of the threads used for IT work. There are many others. It has to be stripped for IT use. There is no way that stripped Wooly Nylon can be used with the Raven. I don't want to go back and forth on a public forum and I don't want to risk exposure. PM me if you want to talk about it further.

I don't know much about IT. Do you mean there is not much difference between nylon and IT ? I sent you a PM.

(Per some type of instructions on stripping invisible thread). You are getting a few feet to a couple yards of "Wooly Nylon". You can get a spool of WN at a fabric or sewing store for a couple bucks (and it will literally be several lifetime supplies). What you are really paying for is the "secret" and/or the particular routine that you are buying (floating bill, levitating ring...). There are however several other options of Invisible threads out there like Kevlar or Vectra. It depends on what you want to animate, lighting conditions and venue (stage, parlor, close up).

I live in a large city, and no longer find wooly nylon something that many craft/fabric stores carry anymore. It is available online, though. Definitely check local stores, but I would recommend letting your fingers do the walking prior to spending the time and gasoline driving to multiple stores in search of it.

Amazon is selling 1000 meter spools of wooly nylon thread for $3.99.
And there are about 20 strands in the thread. Another good source is JoAnnes fabrics. There are stores all around but they are also online.

JoAnne's - in my area, anyway - no longer carries it (tried multiple stores, walking in and looking, and then asking the staff about it...no go. Pity.). Hancock Fabric did, but they are out of business (in my area, at least - used to be a few of them in the area!).

I seem to recall Joanns' carrying it online.
I bought 2 1000 meter spools, one black and one grape colored. As someone mentioned, one spool will last a lifetime. I haven't looked for WN for years.
