I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant. Visualize Whirled Peas! |

Because this is such an expensive wood which has such beautiful grain I give 7 coats of oil...This will bring the beauty of the wood, and at the same time it protects it.....Thanks

1) Did you cut the post from one continuous piece, or are those separate sections?
2) Do the feet come off, too? 3) Is the top hollow? I really like your design!!

Hi, Michael
The post is one continuous piece(not separate) One of the legs come off so that you can carry/ship the item flat The top is hollow with a border of 3/4" solid maple. The inside will be cover with the table material which can be rotated to change table top color i.e. (red/green). Thanks...... Richard |

Thanks for your comments. I was not planning to make this table, as I have one that I personally use, but I had some spare wood so I figured "Why not"

I do similar things quite often. One time, a local guy asked if I'd build him a folding table, so I told him what materials to bring over. There was some plywood left over, so I took that as part of my labor fees, and made myself a pair of skeleton tables. Sometimes, I can't bring myself to go out and spend the money for materials for a whimsical project, but if the stuff is sitting there in front of me, I'll often get the urge to make something with it.
As far as tables go, I've made probably more than a dozen of them over the years, just for my own shows. Every time I'd develop a new show, I'd usually find that there was a specific table design that would work best for that particular act. I've kept some, sold some, given some away, re-purposed some, and thrown the rest in the trash!

Next time you go to throw one of those in the trash I would ask that you remember I have a trashcan at my home you can use....

I understand.....I have made over 25 of these tables, with slight variations, but the design has always been the same.....Because, you seem to have understanding of carpentry, you do understand that when it comes to quality wood there is a price, and usually is not cheap.....I have made this same design in birds eye maple, mahogany, curly maple/tiger maple, and walnut.....So you can estimate the cost can vary, depending on wood selection.

With all the left-over wood here, I'm doing a room addition.

For the top I usually use the same type of cloth used in pool tables. I will do that last; after treating the table with oil. Thanks for the comments

Is this your first table design or have you sold these before. I have one that looks almost exactly like this.

Hi....This is my design which I started to build a few years ago......I have sold over 25 of these in the past, maybe you do have one of my tables? Way back I started to build these in oak......and then I decided to go more for the exotic woods ...

I've owned--and used--one of Richard's tables for the past 5 years. It's held up exceptionally well and I always get compliments on it from other magicians.
Mine is a less elaborate version of his basic design. You can see a glimpse of it in some of the photos on my website. |

Donal, Thanks for those remarks.....I'm very happy that you are pleased with your table.....I had stopped making the table for quite sometime. This table is quiet bigger that the one you have but the overall construction still the same; as this design has proven to be strong, and appealing to others as you mentioned..
Best Wishes, Richard |
