I love effects in which a "special powers" of a spectator is demonstrated -- making them the hero instead of me. At Easter dinner I presented a volunteer with a basket containing five identically dyed eggs, instructing her to carefully pick up each egg in turn, hnadle it and then eturn it tot he basket. I then announced that one egg was "unique" and different from the others and that she could tell which one it was. She set her "psychic choice" aside and passed the basket around for others to select an egg. (I never touched her egg or the others).

Each person then broke his/her egg onto a plate. Hers was hard boiled -- the other raw!

a conjury trick, right? But the following discussion argued whether she had somehow known it was cooked, or whether she had mentally cooked it after the choice -- and how I had known which person to select with this ability.

I offer this as suggestion that any demonstration of your own abilites is always suspect, while demonstration of another's special or "common" ability rarely is.

Not in my experience. You can test for a boiled egg by spinning it, but there is no weight difference in boiling an egg. The surface may feel/look diffent which is why you used dyed eggs.

Hmmm..not even surface tension? boiled eggs feel solid, eggs feel fragile especially along the peak...

might just be me...though I don't go round feeling eggs that often...not anymore...

Hmmmm ...
maybe Iain does have a way of psychically telling a boiled egg from a raw one and doesn't need the trick at all --

which only validates the power/believability of the effect.

What matters is that none of the eight participants at the dinner offered any thoughts being able to do this other than a revealed "special ability." If they can go home and repeat the effect "naturally" -- so be it!
