I've recently started doing Kids shows and was wondering what you think the best tricks are for a kids show for 5-7 year olds.
My personal favourites are Hat Tear, change bag and Dancing Cane!! |

Whatever "trick" I'm performing. It's not what you do, but how you do it. You can take almost any "trick" and turn it into strong and entertaining magic. You can also spend hundreds of dollars on something and present it as nothing more than a simple trick. What makes a "trick" the best is YOU.

Anything that makes them laugh. I also love storytelling with this age group (and a bit older). But if you want to add major impact to your act quickly, get a good puppet.

Different audiences react differently to the same trick. However, the Kandu Carton always "kills" the 5 - 7 year old crowd (and their parents!)

Run Rabbit Run is a great trick for this age group, plus The Magic Coloring Book, and Disappearing crayons along with that.

The wands by Tommy James up the funny factor by a million percent, regardless of which trick you use them with!

Appearing raisins.
or rabbit... Please "pass" the Raisin Bran. Magic and breakfast the most important meal of the day. Step away from the harmonica, said Nigel, as Harris completed a song on his nose harmonica. (have I mentioned that my nearly normal puppets, seem to work well with this age...with a nod to Terry F and Jeff D and those whose shoulders they stand on. Harris, is that the one where you put a raisin in your mouth and then snort it out your nose, directly at the birthday kid. And it lands into their juice cup?

Remember Silly Billy says that it is not the begging or the end, the destination, it is the ride. The stuff that happens in between. You can take the coloring book and turn it into a 10 min. routine. As long as the kids are having fun and you get them involved, that is one thing that is important. Just my two cents.

JimHlou and CarlEJones is correct.
You can't go wrong with Jef Eaton and Tommy James products. These guys work their products before puttin them on the market. The Misers Dream and Linking Rings (Just 3 Rings)are other tricks that have the kids screaming and laughing. Joey, you may need more performing experience before you try these. Tricky Ricky |

Anyone like doing the appearing cane?
What is better, appearing cane or disappearing cane? |

Í would go for the appearing cane, because I think it is more impressive if you make something big appear out of thin air.
The kids love it! |

The raisins appear after the rabbit.
I remember a story about a grandmother who put raisins around the house and told the kids that was proof of the Easter Bunny. Later that morning she wondered why the grandkids would not eat their cereal. Harris
