Of course no one is bound to do anything but pay taxes and die, but one's actions are the best assessor of the person. I have plenty of rare Tenyo, not scarce, rare, I could be selling on eBay, but it goes against my principles as I would rather it go to someone here if I ever had to sell. Whatever... |

He came soliciting to this forum for no other reason but to get what people here would offer to set price to sell on ebay the whole time. Never planned to sell to anyone on the Café.
This is why he didn't list prices in sales area as per Café rules and then took offers! Do you feel used hahaha you betcha. His starting prices are ridiculous he would have done better to have just put them on much lower to get the people hooked into bidding war and let them go crazy. The more bidders you get the higher it always goes. Janus Face would be a better user name for him here.

Now he came up with a different strategy, however not that much smarter. He made the starting bid lower but made his original starting bid the reserve price.

Ya most bidders hate a reserve price being set.
After 10 or more reserve not met notices lots just leave. Fact all his items have been opened makes them not worth even close to his high reserve price unless someone is desperate to get one last tenyo missing from their collection I guess. Nothing like being greedy and stupid! You know what they say...."you can't fix stupid"

So ,now I have change my mind and think to that this guy is stupid. ( Sorry, it's not the right word I want to say in french but when I writte all the synonyms of the vocabulary for the word I think, automatic translator offers me all the time only the word "stupid". The sometimes limited English vocabulary is often frustrating for a French you know ...

Well I see the desperado's are bidding 321.22 on The Haunting, 240.82 on Mira Metal now.
Still amazes me what people think these plastic toys are worth. Interested to see the ending price. Glad I am just slighty infected and still have restraint. Whoa!

Want to add one consolation is they are all already open and at least can be taken out and carefully used without diminishing the value.
Wonder how buyers are going to feel when this artificially inflated Housing/Trick bubble breaks and worth half or less what they paid. Am I wrong about that....might be but time will tell that story. What if Tenyo was to decide to cash in on this fact the most popular items are still sought after and remakes them in plastic again if only by request. Could not have destroyed the molds that would be insane and could still be made again if they did. As the economy crumbles around our feet I am sure it has to be that way in Japan too. Since they only make 5 tricks a year what is stopping them from making all the ones that sold the best again. Just my opinion they would be smart to do so to finance design of future tricks for years to come from old ideas. There is the elite so why not a previously discontinued item line also. Hey Tenyo.... can you see me typing here HELLO!!!!!!!

From what we've seen from Paul Fitzgerald, it wouldn't be surprising if it turned out that the bids are all fake. (bidding on his own listings via different account)

While the prices are reminiscent of any type of bubble (housing, gold, tulips, etc) what makes this different unfortunately, is that these sealed effects are limited in number. The opened ones may come down in price a little but will still be expensive. Look at how much opened plastic Star Wars toys command. I don't think the prices will come down much which is really unfortunate.
I don't have very many tricks and just started collecting. These prices make it very difficult for me to buy any more older Tenyo items. John |

Agree,
If a Baseball card can sell for Millions, why can't Tenyo tricks sell for thousands? |

I can agree.
Like with my profession "locksmith" the price on the tools are extremely high even new. Because the trade is very limited as to how many locksmiths there are compared to a more common trade. They can charge whatever they feel they want to cause you have no choice to buy what is made even if the new key machines that cut the newest high security keys can cost 5,000.00 to 12,000.00 and more. The simplest of locksmith tools is very high for what they are. Old rare locks and safes can bring unbelievable prices that are way more stunning than Tenyo prices and I complain about that too Magic has always had some high prices on quality stuff and is also a trade that is very limited in how many magicians there are compared to a more common trade. So props new and rare is affected the same way. Unfortunately for us that have very little Tenyo and would like to be able to get some of the most ingenious tricks probably ever made the market will keep them from us. Anything people collect baseball cards, stamps, coins, and are rare will always be high in price or have high sentimental attachment and the price will reflect that. There are many Tenyo items I would like to have not because it is rare or collectable the effect and brilliant way the gimmick is made is what I look for. If I am offending anyone when I say things like these plastic toys it is with tongue in cheek. I have always bought solid made magic in brass like Viking or wood like Mikame type things. Plastic has never been to my liking but these Tenyo items have great appeal in the effect and gimmick that cannot be denied they are in a class all their own. I have no problem with anyone making a large profit on these items if they get a great deal and they want to sell them for what the going market rate is that how all things are sold unless it is to a good friend or family member. And when I made the comment earlier in different thread "What a tangled thread we weave when we practice to deceive" is that not what magic is all about deception? I thought it was clever but sometimes the humor I hear in my head isn't taken the way I meant when it is seen in the printed word. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Thanks for your honest opinion MrWizard. And there is absolutely no reason whatsoever to excuse yourself for anything or to anyone with what you have written.
Finding rare Tenyo items will become a hobby - don't spend the ridiculous Ebay prices but search magic shops and websites. I'm sure you'll do a good find in the near future, just be patient! It's not that there are only 5 Mirage's, Ultra Tubes or Hauntings left in the whole world Most of us aren't willing to let our precious, rare items go easily (unless we have a bunch of them), I know that, and I believe that's normal. We all have a pretty good idea of what Tenyo is worth nowdays - for that matter the best place NOT to BUY (I specifically say BUY) very rare items perhaps is here in the Room of Wonders Once you have found some hard to find stuff you will be able to trade and your collection will grow fast. Or, you can put some on Ebay and do some profit/get yourself some money to buy other rare items. Absolutely nothing wrong with that! |

MrWizard, your "plastic-toys" line was most certainly not misunderstood, imho. And thanks for the insights into your fascinating profession, sounds amazing...
