I read a few weeks back about a book that has recently been written and I believe that has been privately published about mentalism using purely playing cards, one of the routines was an Out of this World demonstration, although I have done numerous searches, I haven't been able to track it down. Can anyone help? Thanks in anticipation.

If your looking for good mentalism material purely using playing cards, theres some
great (in my opinion) material on 100% Commercial Mentalism a DVD by Andrew Normansell which Alakazam Magic in England released. |

Hi all.
To answer the question "Is there anything I'm SPECIFICALLY looking for?" Well before I do answer, I would like to say I have absolutely nothing against playing cards with mentalism, probably the contrary, but I have devised some cards of my own that I feel are more practical, presentation wise for mentalism. Let me elucidate, In the simplest demonstration were you have someone choose a card or more than one, all you can do regarding the revelation is to tell the colour, the suit and of course the value. But that's it. The cards I have designed can go a step further than this, and can take on any subject under the sun by use of pictures. One such pack of cards I use is made up of landmarks from different countries around the world. Another one of the key elements in designing these cards is that you can allow the cards to be freely shuffled, they are not marked, with blank backs the look completely organic. When a picture is chosen you ask your assistant to place themselves in the picture and you start to describe what they are looking at and every experience they are feeling about where they are. I have been using these cards under every different circumstance, including reception shows and close-up table hopping, and the design of the cards is limited to your imagination. There are quite a number of mentalism demonstrations these cards are practical for especially an Out of this World presentation, but I am looking for anything that is ultra clean in handling. Hi Franklin,
Since having bought the DVD "Paint The Roses Red" by Lewis Le Val and seeing him perform his Harmony routine on the Wizard Product Review (see this thread for more details - http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......orum=109 ) This has now become the only Card Mentalism Effect I will do in my close up performances and I'd have no qualms about using on stage also... Its great as it is on the DVD but as I explain in the thread I've given the link to, there is so much more than can be done from this routine also. It would also work with picture cards is say one fourth of the deck were buildings, one fourth transport vechicles and then another two section made up of other images.. |

Hi Sacramentohypnosis
I saw the demonstration on the Wizard Product Review as well and the Harmony routine is without doubt excellent, which I can't fault, all except for one thing, it is unfortunately not commercial! The thing that lets it down is and obviously not wanting to give anything away, the time it takes in resetting it from one demonstration to the next. I am extremely familiar with the workings of the effect as I originally read it in Bascomb Jones much missed Magick, albeit just with the court cards and apparently memorising or knowing the order the court cards fall in. If you want to do it as a one off or special demonstration it is an outright winner, but not for walk around or table hopping. |

If you want to do mentalism with playing cards, then the Water's book (Tailored Suits) AND any of the Mick Ayres Act Series will keep you busy, happy, and hired.

All of Mick's material is excellent and well worth checking out. I love his work. I am not privy to Ran's card work, but I can't imagine it being anything less than outstanding.
I wanted to address the need that Franklin mentioned above, in this thread (and how it relates to my method). If you care to know, follow the rabbit hole. I thought it better Suited to read in Inner Thoughts. On my OOTW (Brave, New World): http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......rum=82&0 |
