Proofing this book has been one of my nicest jobs during the last weeks... Not only because Mike has put so much care and patience in his oeuvre that one could almost call him pedantic (which is very similar to myself), but also because his effects and ideas are full of enthusiasm, profound knowledge and sharp-witted brain.
As far as I know this little book is in the last stage before going to the printer, and I advice any card guy to have a closer look at it and all future releases of Mike.

Good question, Daniel.
I'm an avid magic enthusiast from Poland. I consider myself to be a creator first and foremost, primarily of card magic, but I perform on occasion, mostly to test out my own material. Mike |

Hey guys,
Here's a short description of the effects you will find in the booklet: --- In “You Know Better,” the spectators get all the credit for achieving the “impossible”. Using their intuition, in a remarkable way they will manage to find the mates to their cards. “Off-Centers” is an incredibly deceptive, and not that hard demonstration of a legendary center deal technique. “Du-et,” is another example of an effect where not you, but the two spectators do the remarkable, locating their lost selections in a pleasingly improbable way. In “Bold Collection,” an unusual take on Roy Walton's classic “The Collectors” effect, you can very openly show the four kings that haven't been near the deck, and a moment later three, face-down selections will appear between the kings, one at the time. In “Plan B,” using both intuition and “reading” skills, the performer tries to locate three spectators’ selections, based on their “tells” and reactions. When the performer realizes that he has made a mistake, in an impossible way he uses his magical skills to get out of trouble. “In Between” is a slightly revamped version of my first ever marketed effect, where a card that's only in the spectator's mind, appears sandwiched between two lost selections that were used to create that thought of card. “In Oil, Under Water” is a two-phase oil & water routine using only 8 cards, where the mixing and separation of the red and black cards happens in, and under the spectator's hands. “Colors” is a great hands-off prediction, where you know the exact outcome of a truly random game, as well as the card that the spectator chose in an incredibly fair way. The last but not least is the “MK Simple Shift Variation,” a technical variation, or “close cousin,” of Edward Marlo's classic “Simple Shift”. --- Best, Mike |

I forgot to mention one thing - only one effect, apart from a normal deck of cards, requires one additional "something" - and that is a regular playing card.

Since my little book, "8 Effects And a Sleight," is coming out very soon, I have one review copy to share - if you're interested in reviewing it, just PM me and I'll pick the lucky Café member who will get the ebook version of the booklet.

Hi All,
I was lucky enough to get the ebook review copy of “8 Effects and a Sleight” from Michael. I told him I was not a “card guy,” but my review might be useful from that perspective. While reading through the manuscript, I was struck by the premises of the routines (a description of each routine was presented by Michael in a previous post and I would direct the reader to it, rather than give the summaries again here). Although mostly variations and inspirations from the likes of Elmsley, Hartling, James, Marlo, and others, Michael’s “effects and ideas are full of enthusiasm,” as Nicolino has already pointed out. I especially enjoyed “You Know Better,” “Du-et,” “Plan B,” and “In Between.” I can imagine performing those and that they would be very well received by my spectators and would result in many smiles and much applause. I was also very impressed by the clarity of his explanations and accompanying illustrations (although I would have preferred photographs in some cases). I had no problems following the step-by-step instructions for any of the routines. Michael does an excellent job crediting those who came before him. He provides specific references (e.g., chapters, page numbers) within his explanations and a bibliography at the end of the book. The routines require more than a beginner’s knowledge and skill of card sleights and technique. Michael does offer sources where you can learn what is necessary (he even teaches you one that can be used in many situations), but you will need to master those sleights first. If you are just beginning to work with cards, you will find most of the routines very rough going. If you are an advanced beginner or above card worker, I think you will find “8 Effects and a Sleight” a more-than-worthy addition to your library. Two thumbs up! Regards, Steve

Thank you for the review, Steve and I'm more than happy that even a "non-hardcore card fanatic" will find something interesting in the book.

Hey guys,
A quick heads up - the printed proof copy had been sent to me and I'm waiting for it to arrive so I can approve everything for the first printing. I guess it's a matter of 2-3 weeks when the booklet will be finally released. Can't wait! I was very lucky to share the material with two fine card men - John Guastaferro and Jack Carpenter, and these two gentlemen really liked the booklet! How cool is that? And because the release has been slightly delayed, I have one, additional review copy to share - if you're interested in reviewing it, please PM me and I'll provide you with the ebook version of the booklet. Best, Mike |
