I'm new to magic in general and decided to focus on coins since that's where my interest has always been. I came across a coin lot on ebay that I bought but it came with no instructions and the seller was not helpful in any way. This is a link to the lot I bought. http://www.ebay.com/itm/270954408297?ssP......0wt_1287

I would describe the coins in more detail but I'm sure you can see them in the photos. If anyone can provide instructions to the variations of tricks one can do I would greatly appreciate it. I have search videos of the tricks being performed but I cannot seem to 'know how' it's done although I believe I have what is needed to perform them.

PM if necessary!

Thanks A Lot!

Reading the descriptions of the sets, there will be threads on all these gaffs here at the Café. e.g. Google "hopping half magic Café" you'll find lots of info. It's probably time to invest in some books....

If those really are Johnson coins, you got a pretty good deal.

I'm sure others will be chiming in here, but be sure to start with the non-gaff basics or at least work on it. It is tempting to go right to gaff coins, but you will short yourself if you don't study the basics, at least concurrently.

This thread covers the basic books: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......um=3&185
but the most commonly recommended first coin magic book (my first magic book, in fact) would be Bobo's New Modern Coin Magic. You should know that there are two versions of this, one non-copyrighted (soft-bound) and the hardback version that contains more material. You should be able to buy the hardbound Bobo's used from Amazon or the like for $20-25. The edition doesn't matter, but I would spend the extra $10 for the hardbound book, if I were you.

A couple of the gaffs you purchased are "entry level" gaffs - Scotch and soda and folding quarter/half, in particular, but also probably the hopping half set which can be used for a bunch of other things as well (the sun and moon set, for example).

If you want some immediate descriptions as to how to use the entry level gaffs, there are some inexpensive pamphlets such as "twenty-five tricks with ..." for folding quarters and for scotch and soda.

In addition, I would take Tom's advice and do a search in the Trick Coin Trickery forum (click on "search" above right), on the gaffs you purchased as a starting point for more information on what you have. The seller may not have been much help, but he at least gave you the names of the gaffs. (remember to print out the ebay page, because it will eventually go away).

You might also want to contact Johnson. If these are really Johnson coins, and you are real nice, you might talk them into sending you instructions for at least some of them. The instructions are only a starting point anyway. The instructions only give you the basic routine - it's up to you to make the routine yours.

The M******c and st//l c**e coins are fairly advanced and would not be too helpful to you at this point, but keep them because there are a million and one routines that are possible with them that look like real magic when you are ready.

Welcome to the Café!

Raul, Mr. Sun is correct. Coin Magic is developed over time. You can read many threads here on the Café from coin magicians on every level and they will all agree this is an arduous journey. You are very fortunate to find gaffs to use. You can incorporate them as you go along. Bobo's is the "Bible" of coin magic. The veterans will point your direction there first every time. A good coin man cuts his teeth on Bobo's---good coin women too. Look at what you've got. The veterans, the masters, will say, "It's in Bobo's."

You may not realize how valuable this insight is until later.

All this Feedback is greatly appreciated. I will take it all into account and do my 'homework'
Thanks for the kind words and reality of things!
I've contacted Johnson and they were kind enough to provide pdf files for the various gaffs.
