Hi,
Are there any Tenyo effects that were remade by a different company and it ended up working as good or better than the original one made by Tenyo? (Not counting Tenyo Elite) Izzy Jay |

Now THAT's an interesting question
Well, from the top of my mind ... not really remakes perhaps, bus basically the same kind of tricks but better in my opinion: * Mindscanner --> John Cornelius' Thought Transmitter * Fantastica --> Masuda's WOW * Knife Of The Ninja --> (this is not really the same effect though and can't be inspected afterwards) Masuda's The Blade * Superspike --> Magiro's Coin and Bolt, I don't know who was first ... . (More info see thread "Happiness is......... ") I'm getting an old European remake (or was it Tenyo that remade this version?) of Cardchanger next week ... I don't know how it works but it looks the same and does the same thing ... I'll let you know. |

Lol everytime I use my Masuda Blade the banknote finish to be really bored.... a disaster !
Knife of Ninja is for me the best gimmick ever invented for this kind of routine. But my knowledge of the history of magic is very limited I had several people who have found Fantastica more impressive than "WOW" bacause You see the playing card slide of the case and change at the same time. But WOW is just magical too it's clear. |

I'm with Stereo regarding Knife of the Ninja. I find it more interesting. You can see the note the whole time.
While with Masuda's The Blade. You have to cover the note. It somehow looks more suspicious. But then again I may be wrong. Quote:

* Diminishing Cards - Viking Magic makes a great set (Al Baker style)
* Dice Vision - many better versions out there... the Cadillac is Promystic's MD * Funny Dog - Any version of the sponge bunnies is pretty much better than this. * Coin Thru Match - Jay Leslie makes a nice wooden version * Card Case - Viking magic makes a nice wooden magnetic version * Astro Tube - Mikame make a nice version (Killertweety was the first to point this out) * Little saving Box - Viking magic makes a nice brass version * Magic Tube - This is basically a plastic version of the "Pea Can" many nice metal versions out there * Occult Board - A very nice mini Mental epic available on ebay from a seller in Israel * Coin in nest - Viking magic makes a nice brass version * Super Vase a la India - basically a plastic Lota bowl, many nice metal versions available * Squeeze Play - Have a "Deluxe Version" on order from Daytona Magic, will let you know if it is any good. * Trap Box - Viking Magic make a nice wooden "Rattle Box" John |

Now that's a nice list JM I have the Viking Coin In Nest and I find it harder to work with then the plastic Tenyo version (can sometimes make a clinging sound but that could be just me not performing it right ). It does look nicer of course.
I also own Pea Can, I agree this is better then the plastic version, but again it can make a sound when lifting the gimmick. The Little Saving Box by Viking is a very nice prop, you can let the gimmick make a sound even if the coin isn't there anymore. What I don't like about the effect is that it is a bit too large for my hands to steal the coin, but I have small hands I have to learn to use more misdirection, I know! I don't own Astro Tube but Mikames' "Dream Tunnel' is a great trick, and very affordable. I have a Super Vase A La India (a copy of Tenyo, also red, the same size etc.) and it works far better then Tenyo's version. The gimmick hole in Tenyo's version is too small - water doesn't come out. I have to look for the deluxe Squeeze Play and Mental Epic! Aaaahh ... more spending money it seems Oh and finally, yes, I mentioned this before but Promystic Multi Dimensional replaces a lot of mental effects like Diabolicus and Die Vision. As for Knife Of The Ninja I agree it is perhaps better, you can hand everything out in the end Then again, Masuda's Blade really looks like a common exacto knife and KOTN looks a litle more 'weird'. [EDIT] JM, what makes the Mini Mental Epic better then Tenyo's version apart from it looking more professional and being better quality? Is it esier to operate? Pm me if your answer could expose a bit please. |

Just found this searching for Mini mental Epic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5H_2ex6piDY - nice knock-off of Tenyo's Menta Marvel, but not nearly as good looking You have to STOP watching at 5:00 by the way, I just got a nasty PC virus because I looked longer You've all been warned!

Hi Killertweety:
A friend of mine has the Deluxe Mini Epic... the gaff works very smoothly and it definitely looks sleeker and more professional. However Mental Marvel looks pretty good as well. Hold off on Squeeze Play until I see mine... Daytona Magic products are not always great. It has arrived at the magic shop just need to pick it up this weekend. Sorry about your small hands... didn't factor that into my evaluations <g> John |

I like the tenyo "coin in nest"because it holds a quarter size coin unlike other plastic ones I ve found which only fit a penny. The metal ones are too noisey for me I ve found. The pea can I use is an ickle pickle metal one which is real light and makes no noise.I would not use a plastic one myself. The roydens"fantastic"trick I have, but the sandwich platter works much better.I have never been able to make that trick"fantastic"work smoothly(maybe just me.)The use of cardboard for the panels was a good ,unsuspecting idea though.

Kreis Card thru bolt (Bolted) --- I like this one, especially the part about it being examinable in the spectator's hands. You can't do that with Bolted.

He meant 5 minutes (5:00) into the video. The video is about 12 minutes long.

Nice.
I use YouTube Downloader to download all video's to my computer and save it permanently if it worth doing so. Gives you a chance to scan it before you click on it to watch. I believe the virus come with the asp file that downloads when watched from the site you don't get that file downloading it without watching it. I maybe wrong but that is the way I do it. I never watch a video straight from any site. Now back to more Tenyo imitations.

I really don't understand equating the Trap Box to a Rattle Box. They achieve the same end, but the three times I have seen the Rattle Box used in a performance a spectator I'm with (who has NO knowledge magic) or another nearby has commented that it "just goes out the back." The bottom of the Trap Box obviously has a back. I believe the Tenyo people released this product specifically address the "out the back" theory. I consider it a major improvement.

I think that Trap Box is one of the best trick of the recent years, and I love it. It's not a simple rattle box. The mechanism is very clever and you can use it with lot of differents routine.
It's sad that no one was willing to write a review for this trick when I had asked because I think "Trap Box" really deserved it. |

Interesting I thought Trap Box is just another Rattle Box never see one.
I'll have to check that out.
