Apparently, Bryn Reynolds works better under pressure. He has now released a second e-book of mentalism. His first book, 'The Safwan Papers', was packed with stellar material that was developed in the middle of a war-zone. Bryn's newest book, 'The Logar Scrolls', shares the same two distinctions: the material was conceived and developed by a working soldier in the field and again, it is ALL first-rate stellar.

'The Logar Scrolls' is a fine blend of old and new. Bryn has filled 'The Logar Scrolls' with previously marketed creations that are now enhanced with several fresh approaches using these same ideas and devices. I purchased his BusinessCoin Prediction many years ago and used it often at the resort in front of guests from all over the world. The new concepts for the BusinessCoin Prediction offered by Bryn have made me dust it off and bring it out again, and the resort guests are loving it. I will not be using Bryn's clever application of BCP for a Mental-Epic presentation with a single index-card, but ONLY because scripted demonstations of a Mental-Epic nature already exist in my acts. Still, it's a brilliant and grand idea.

Before now I was not privy to the working behind Bryn's products ESPenvelope or The Notebook, but I plan to adapt both devices into presentations that will dovetail with my on-stage character. I don't often do this sort of thing with anyone else's material, but I believe Bryn's thinking is going to make feeding my family easier and I would be foolish to ignore the opportunity.

Rifflethink is a strong, direct demonstration of mentalism using playing cards. I have field-tested Rifflethink (albeit using a different method I am more comfortable with) and have found Bryn's presentation to be a memorable expeience for the guests. This one is a keeper, too.

The Gift is Richard Osterlind's adaptation of an effect that I believe was first published in 1941 by Paul Curry under the title Padding. The premise was mentioned again in Ted Annemann's '202 Methods of Forcing'. Mike Skinner published the basic principle in his book 'Classic Sampler' under the title Birthday Mentalism. I only know all this because I also contributed to bringing Curry's Padding into the twenty-first century. My approach is titled Rescue 2000 and can be found in 'Predict-Abilities' (Book Two in the Act-Series) and also in Steve Beam's series 'Semi-Automatic Card Tricks'.

I am a fan of think-on-your-feet mentalism, so Osterlind/Reynolds' The Gift is a very nice demonstration of mindreading to carry in your arsenal.

To parrot what Gabelson has already said...you will find great value in every page.

The Logar Scrolls makes me glad Bryn's on our side.

Warm regards,
Mick Ayres

I also bought Logar Scrolls and I join the others in praising his ideas. Together with "The Safwan Papers", these are ones of the best collection of mentalism effects I have.

I just want to add that Martin Gardner describes in his book "Mathematics Magic and Mystery" a handling of this trick by Al Baker, in a 1923 manuscript, and he says that this is the earliest date he found a published explanation of the principle. More references are in the Gardner's book.

Thanks for digging that up, Francesco! I'll check it out ('cause I loves the hunt)!

Mick: Thanks so much for you nice words. I'm glad you are finding value in the effects in the book. I also appreciate yours and bremen's insight into the history of the genre of effects such as Osterlind's "The Gift." They truly are amazing works, that presented properly, are impossible to backtrack, and I am so very fortunate that Richard gave me the "Gift" to include in LOGAR.

High praise from you, indeed, and I thank you.

My problem is this -- there is way too much usable stuff here -- and as a person with ADD, even though I would like to use it all -- this with the Safwan Papers would be almost a full show.

Bryn not only gives means and methods here -- but went to the trouble of adding additional routine ideas and various endings....which addles my choice mechanisms even further.

The heads/tails variation he adds is a principle not used enough to create true miracles in other routines -- but this particular small miracle can create a mindset in the audience to allow them to wonder if you are truly psychic.

And, reading about then creating one of Bryn's envelopes can tell you how easily you can work the miracles with common tools if your expensive props are ever lost by an airline. (Not that has ever happened.) Allowing the subject to handle the envelope after the business -- is a small audience kicker that drips authenticity onto the effect. While the method is not new -- the ideas of how (particularly in a pinch) to create this opens some large doors for very little cost of admission.

One of the best things I find with Bryn's work is its intimacy - which can also play to moderate sized audiences. I do think, however, audiences of 1,000 - 2.000 or a stadium might not enjoy the subtle proofs of ESP and psychic ability Logar presents. So forget the large venues with these -- but go for the better paying, more intimate 1 per centers who will pay more for your show because it IS personal...and a part of you, using very common props, if you can call office supplies and a quarter of a dollar, 'props."

Now, to narrow my choices -- Bryn will have to write less if he wants to solve my problem. But for normal, or better, performers this has choices and material that works.

You have NO idea how much it makes me happy that these are your "complaints" about The LOGAR Scrolls. No idea, as I view you as a voice of sanity and appreciate your posts over the years. YOURS is the client base I am hoping to reach with LOGAR.

One could fret about worse complaints!

Thank you, very much.

Well I've just finished reading this twice through and I'm really sick of Bryn Reynolds.
Not only is every piece useful, adaptable and real-world tested, but they have previously sold for more than the price of the ebook.
On top of that, he's updated some of the originals as well as adding thoughts & tips from other workers, in a display of open-mindedness and modesty that is rare in many mentalists (sorry guys - but it's true!)
But the worst things is that Bryn's an effing war hero.
And he's all modest and self-deprecating about that too (as most true heroes are - and I've been privileged enough to meet a few in the day-job).
In "Safwan" I was just glad there was some good stuff; Logar just makes you feel inadequate. If I didn't know better I'd think Bryn was some kind of US propaganda stunt by the government...

The only caveat is check the contents for those of you who may have bought all of Bryn's previous ideas and gimmicks; but for those of us who started at "Safwan..." then this is essential reading (and making ;-) )

So Bravo, sir; and every success to you and your adorable family.

So, I picked this up about a week or so ago. I had the opportunity to briefly chat with Bryn via PM and I can honestly say that he is genuinely one of the nicest guys around.

As for the product, I can definitely say that this was a great buy. I was a bit hesitant to purchase this at first as I have had a ton of bad luck with ebooks in the past – even those with great reviews.

Thanks Bryn for putting out a great product. I understand that not every routine will fit every individual’s preferences, but I am confident that EVERYONE will find value in these pages.

Hope this helps.

"If I didn't know better I'd think Bryn was some kind of US propaganda stunt by the government..."

That, sir, was a morning-maker for me that almost resulted in some wasted french-press coffee out my nose
from my Jetboil stove in the woods (teaching my two-year-old twins to "camp" in the backyard.) I REALLY do appreciate the review, Gregg, and also thanks to Elliot and bushido.

I also got a nice plug "plug" from a mentalist friend of mine that many may know here named Marc Salem.

I've appreciated his honest advice and wisdom over the years (and he is responsible for a few effects that DIDN'T make it into "The Safwan Papers!) He is a true performer. He said LOGAR is as good as anything Bryn as has ever published, and of course ended it with "GET THIS."

From Marc, I appreciate this blurb. I never expect him to chime in on my effects, yet he does.

He said to put this "up," and tell them he will soon have some more addendums on the individual effects. I no longer have a website to push..... so posting it here.

wow....nice.

In addition to the nice words about LOGAR from Marc Salem, I was also extremely happy to see it was just well-reviewed by Jheff in his latest MarketPlace of the Mind Newsletter:

"This issue's newsletter focuses on two new books by Richard
Osterlind and Bryn Reynolds, whose work was featured on
Osterlind's DVDs and who includes a routine by Osterlind.
Both are highly worth checking out."

"
THE LOGAR SCROLLS
Suggested Retail Price: $45
http://www.MarketplaceoftheMind.com/logascro.html

MY COMMENTS:
Yes, I highly recommend this. And, yes, I have to admit
that I'm a bit biased since I have a contribution in this.
However, if one peruses my catalog, you'll see that quite a
few of the included pieces in this e-book have already been
covered individually and enthusiastically as previously
separate releases ($, Double-Down, ESPnvelope, The
BusinessCOIN Prediction).

Everything in here can be considered good, solid workers.
Period. The ONLY reason that I can conceive of any working
professional not wanting this is because you have everything
in here already. My only additional comment would be that
most of these are close-up mentalism effects, but some can
certainly be adapted to parlour or stage, if one wants.
This is a sixty-five page downloadable e-book. As I said at
the start, yes, I highly recommend this."

Nice.

Thanks, Jheff!

I don't know what higher compliment to Bryn I could pay other than to say, all of the items that had been made available prior to Logar Scrolls (in separate individual form), I have purchased and enjoyed. The fact that this is a compendium makes this a no-brainer. I love how Bryn has expanded a number of the principles as well (like BCP Wrist-Watch, Crystal Ball and the other one I won't mention out loud). These are all rock-solid routines, tools and principles. Just read the reviews provided via links by Bryn above. You will see what you are getting away with.

Received this 30 seconds ago...
I've been looking for a practical multiple out method for Max Maven's imaginary ten pin bowling routine from Prism....
The Notebook came along... I would've paid $45 for page 4 & 5 only.
May I hear a "Hallelujah" brothers and sisters.... Smile

Many of the individual effects themselves received great reviews when previously released seperately, and the LOGAR collection as a whole has been doing great. Quite well-received, as seen from above and elsewhere, so I think so.

Also, the new effects and variations, as well as the new stuff from Richard Osterlind, have thankfully been said, that alone, to be worth more than the price of admission, so I DO think so!

Thanks,
