Well, Shift Key has been out for a couple of weeks now. I've seen lots of commments about it from buyers that just opened the package and played around with it, but not much about putting it into practice. How happy are you with it now? What kind of reactions have you been getting from your spectators?

I have been following reviews for this, some good, some bad. Mostly good. How are the reactions people are getting? I would like to know as well.

This thing is so good, they are still in the package, and they are selling them in the Let's Make a Deal section of the Café.
Sort of tells you everything you need to know, doesn't it? |

I have a question... Anyone else having trouble with the thing staying flat? I kept it in the ice water for almost a minute. Pushed it down quickly as per the instructions but there's still a slight bend. So I tried it again and then tried to actually bend it in the opposite direction (don't know if this was good or bad) and it remained relatively flat. But not for long, it's 74 in my house and when I went to check on the key about an hour later it started to bend and didn't remain straight (even for days!) like their description says...

Nope, doesn't stay straight. That's for sure. I just prepare mine a few minutes before using it.

I had high expectations for this... intact, I bought two!
Was excited that it was supposed to stay flat at room temp. Sadly, in my experience with them they do not... My house isn't very hot, and I find that they bend before I even touch them... They'll stay straight for a bit, but not as expected. Wanted to love this... |

That's why I now ALWAYS wait for real, genuine user reviews. Been burnt far to often in the past. No more.

Gets great reactions though.

It's actually working better now. It's just something you need to get used to. I put mine in the freezer and actually bend it in the opposite direction (someone I talked to at Ellusionist said this was ok because the metal is actually "elastic" at this point. You just need to be careful how much you handle it and where you lay it before you perform as different surfaces retain different levels of heat.
Good thread here about keeping it straight: http://forums.ellusionist.com/showthread......ding-Key |

Although there are a few contrary posts, like most of the people that have reviewed this product in other threads the key does NOT stay flat at room temp for very long and even if it does it develops a 'wave'. Even keeping flat for a while is OK with me, I don't have a problem with keeping a freeze can around with me. The HUGE issue (pardon the pun) is the fact the key obviously does NOT look like a house key as it is (was) advertised. I just went back to the E web site and noticed they changed the product description and removed the line claiming it looked like "an ordinary house key". The thumbnail photo looks more realistic now also. The problem with this is that it is THIN, really, really, thin. I would have paid twice as much for a key twice as thick and that would have been a GREAT piece. The effect is GREAT! but no one is going to think it is a 'regular' key, and if you think so you are fooling yourself not the spectator. E would have been better off making it some other common object that would normally be that thin. Since I gave up on the E key, I did buy a key from another vendor that is thicker and looks just like a real key. This key has to be kept in a cooler (I use a coffee tumbler with cold liquid) before use but that is OK, because everyone does not have to pretend the key looks like a key. I learned a lot from this experience. Because I bought the product on the pre-purchase and had it before reviews showed up on the Café I learned: 1. Some people will try to "polish a turd". I was amazed at the people that had no problem with the highly misleading description of the product by the vendor (now changed) and worked so hard to come up with excuses. I did not expect this. Perhaps these people own stock in E? 2. Some people take any 'non-glowing' review as bashing. Bashing is wrong, but an honest description of product shortcomings is what a lot of people come here for (I know I do). Don't shoot the messenger if what they are posting is accurate. 3. I learned by lesson about pre-ordering a product before waiting on some reviews to show up. . |
