This is just speculation but I'm pretty sure I know who runs real secrets. I won't post anything not public here for gear of getting kicked off before I even get my first trick.
A: Richard Kaufman knows a lot and he's an outsider, so he has dropped a lot of clues. Primarily, its someone he has done a book with. He hadn't made that many books from people who would do this. Its a grand total of two people. Pay attention to everything he says though. He's dropped a lot of other clues, generally accidentally. B: Only one name comes up every single time anyone who knows anything about real secrets says anything. C: I'm pretty sure there is only one magician in the world who has the kind of connections necessary to pull real secrets off, and is the type of person to do it. D: He's clearly someone somewhat involved in Magic-Con. Not much of a hint, but its something. If he who must not be named has any problems just let me know and I will delete this immediately. I have a ton of respect for you. |

I'm sorry if I sounded irreverent in my last text. I really really respect you.
There are two other points. E: Only one magician was going around telling everyone how great real secrets is on his lecture well before real secrets started shipping. F: Richard Kaufman automatically assumes a certain spectacular prop by this incredibly brilliant person will eventually be for sale only to real Secrets members. |

I thought it was obvious that the artist formerly known as sirbrad was behind Real Secrets.

My point is that as much as they've been trying to keep it a secret, enough clues have been dropped that its pretty clear who it is if you think about it and spend about 5 minutes checking around. If you care at all, just look at who Richard Kaufman has done books with and you should have a pretty good idea who it is. If you care a little more watch Richard Kaufman's article from this months iGenii and you'll see which prop and who I am talking about based on the fact he automatically jumped to the conclusion it will be available to members of Real Secrets (and if you don't care, this forum isn't for you. Just enjoy your tricks, hang out in the other 99.9999% of the Magic Café and be happy.)

I am pretty sure it is Jay Sankey. I heard him asked about it at a lecture recently, he did a book with Kaufman, and he is the most creative guy in magic today. Unless it is Paul Harris, but I don't think he did any books with Kaufman. But if Kaufman is wrong about the book part, it could be Paul Harris.

Newguy,
It can't be Sankey because he wouldn't give you your money back! I think it's that Criss Blaine guy or maybe David Angel...no wait, I bet it's that Coppertone guy! WAIT A MINUTE!!!...very secretive, not saying anything...I KNOW, IT'S TELLER of Penn & Teller!!! |

Fireisyummy is merely saying the person behind Real Secrets may or may not be some person who's been mentioned at some point.
I'll even get more specific in general speculation. I have reason to believe that the next President will either be a Democrat who's last name starts with an "O", or a Republican who's last name starts with an "R". I won't mention any names or how I know. I'm just saying..... |

I can say in all honesty that I it has never been confirmed to me who is behind Real Secrets. When I have questions, I write to the same Real Secrets email address as everyone else. The answers always come back from "The Real Secrets Team."
So, I can assure you that it's not me. I have more than enough to do with getting Genii out every month, putting on a whopper of a convention, and trying to finish up my next two books! Not me. I swear. I have my suspicions about who the people are behind Real Secrets (more than one person), but I do not know for certain. Regarding the first two releases: Considering the price ($12 a month if you signed up early; $15 a month if you signed up later) I think the first two tricks are great. I mean, really, when was the last time you could buy a great trick for $15 that was as good as either one of these? Not for decades. The price is exceedingly fair. It's better than fair: it's a bargain. I paid just like everyone else--no freebie! So if I thought it was crap, I'd tell you. I'm looking forward to the rest of the releases this year. As for "Weber's Wallet," which I both wrote about and spoke about in Genii, it is an item that I had been led to believe will be available through Real Secrets at some point. But that may not be true. Weber is one of the contributors to Real Secrets, and the website states that Real Secrets will sometimes have items for sale exclusively to members from the contributors. I think that's pretty straightforward. "Weber's Wallet" is cool as hell! |

As far as I'm concerned, I don't care if the bleedin' Royal Family are running the show as, whoever owns it, won't be getting a copper coin from me anyway. That said, fair play to the guys that have joined - and are subsequently enjoying their membership.

Does it really matter? We know it's no one that posts to these threads.
But, what would change if we did know for sure? Nothing. Let's say that that name came out and was confirmed and when we saw the name we all gave a collective, "Who?" What if it was literally some 'underground' guy who knows like everyone, but no one really knows him? How would it be helpful. I'm really just curious. What would change if we suddenly knew for sure that the mastermind, the Svengali, the Blofeld behind Real Secrets was not just a shadowy Mr. X, but .... ta da! And, his name appears here. Again, nothing would change. Either the magic we will get will be counted by each individual as great, good, bad or who cares and that's all that really matters. We'll all go to about month 9 and if it looks like we are really happy we'll let it renew and if not then we'll cancel out. They really, REALLY can't MAKE you keep renewing...at least not yet. lol If what's offered continues to meet or beat the second installment I'll be a very happy subscriber, who or whatever is behind this nefarious scheme to get out money in return for something cool and fun. Heck...maybe it's just a big computer somewhere. Maybe the whole thing is some M.I.T. graduate project by a nerdy dude who loves magic? It could happen...... Best,
Brad Burt

Real Secrets has exceeded my expectations. At this point, I wouldn't care if Dan Army or Kevin Parker were behind it.
