Not a Tarot deck but I use PsyCards. Easier to read and very appropriate if you want to do card readings without the esoteric flavor. I'm not saying that one is better than another... it's just another option, for example if your approach is more psychological.

Your choice of deck depends on what your intended use of the cards might be.
If you're reading for people in a party environment, you don't want to scare the hell out of them. You want cards that are unthreatening and maybe even a little familiar. By those criteria, you'll probably want to use the Rider Waite. That's what I do. If you're doing bizarre magick, going for shock, and don't mind intimidating people, it's hard to beat the Crowley Toth deck. Best, Neil

Mr Grossberg should also mention his intriguing looking "Deck of Shadows". I don't have it but fully intend to get it after seeing it's use in "The Vitruvian Square".

However, good quality artwork on the cards helps. The artwork on some of the 'New Age' decks look very amatuerish, and would put off clients. I'm sure I've seen a brilliantly done Lord Of The Rings deck-i'm not a fan in the slightest and I wanted one! The art is awe-inspiring, but I'd fear people would think I was messing about with them. Oh well... |

I think the Marseilles is hard to top - Especially the Dodal and Nobet.
For Rider-Waite, consider the Universal Tarot (not Universal Waite). It is a redrawn Rider-Waite that replicates the original but with much more attractive and accessible coloring and drawing. Richard Webster and Doug Dyment are among those who highly recommend it. |

All a matter of personal taste, I usually use, a rider waite deck for daily readings, but have a hand painted deck for special clients and as far as beauty I love the overall look of the medieval scapini deck

It's worth pointing out that plain old playing cards have a certain mystique about them.
When I started readings many moons ago in Edinburgh a few clients told me about an old guy who did readings "just with playing cards" and the impression given was that this was a much greater skill than reading tarot cards. Always stuck in my head - when you hear little nuggets like that you have to listen. |

Did any of you listen to Enrique Enriquez on Beyond Worlds Podcast today? (If not, get the podcast. He talks about his incredible upcoming film, Tarology!)
Anyway, the Marseilles deck he used, the new "Millenium Edition," may be the most incredible Marseilles, or any, tarot I have ever seen. The application of sacred geometry to the original images seems to make them more real, authentic, and accessible than any other Marseilles, even the wonderful Noblet and Dodal. Check it out! I'm ordering right away; http://tarot-de-marseille-millennium.com......ion.html |

(I should add, as of right now, there are only the Majors in the millenium edition; they alone took over seven years and the minors
Will not be completed before 2015) |

Personally, I love the Rider-Waite deck.
Just a couple of days, I couldn't help but was drawn to the artwork of the Steampunk tarot deck. So I purchased it, and yes, I'm totally in love again. Fans of Rider-Waite may want to take a look at this deck, every card is almost instantly familiar yet different in their own ways. (with comparison with Rider-Waite) Love the artwork. |
