Can anyone recommend a high quality rigid rope? All the ones I have seen for sale at magic stores have always seemed... cheap.

They are all cheap now because they are made in China and India.

Thanks for the question, Eric. It reminded me to check Elmwood Magic for the "Rope Fantasy" again.
It was recommended here: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......start=30 But it is still "out of stock." |

Try calling Paul at Elmwood (if you have not already done so) and ask him if he is able to give you a timeline as to when Rope Fantasy may be back in stock. You can also ask to see if he knows of any other quality versions, which might give you some leads.
I feel bad that are still without your rope, but I hope this helps. |

Every little bit helps, thank you, Dr. Ayala.

Rope Fantasy sounds like the "U.F. Grant Miniature Rope of India" trick from the 1960's. This will not work as a Stiff Rope or Rigid Rope like the comedy models on the market.
There was 2 versions of this, the 1st had lead content in the gimmick, and was changed to the "Improved" model when lead was found to be not good for humans. The Improved used a sleeving technique, not many wanted to mess with, so the trick faded away. I am of couse not saying it is a similar trick, I am only saying it reads like it. |

Is this, by any chance, the Rope Fantasy that you were looking for, Woland?

I wouldn't know, Eric, it was Dr Ayala's suggestion. Looks like it might do, though.

Rope Fantasy is another U.F. Grant trick marketed may years ago, under the name Stiff Rope or Hypnotised Stiff Rope, can't remember now as to the exact name. The feature was the entire rope became stiff as in the video. The original was made shorter so it could be held with one hand.
With today's laws on lead poisoning, I cannot believe this is on the market, unless a different substance has been found to replace the original gimmick. |

The rope that I have was made a bit shorter than you see in the link above, but not quite as short as the Grant version. Also, assuming that the manufacturer has not reverted back to old material, the current gimmick in the ropes is NOT made with lead and the one that I have is also lead-free. I hope this helps. |

Thank you, Doctor Ayala! I plan on ordering from this purveyor, and I will post my reactions to the item here in due course.
