Been playing chess a lot lately, stumbled upon this...

Find a chess player who should beat you and offer odds for a two pawn, two move handicap (i.e. you get to remove two pawns, and take two moves before they begin).

As white, remove f7 and g7 pawns. Play e4, Qh5++. Checkmate.

Sure it'll come in handy at some point =)

That's pretty cool, thanks. About to try it out, we'll see how it works.
Are you watching closely?

Got togive this one a try, got some chess types I would love to beat for once.
By failing to prepare, we are preparing to fail.

Depends on how good they need to be to meet the "should beat you" criterion. Most serious chess players are familiar with the Fool's Mate. If you caught them off guard, they might still fall for it, but if it's real wager or even if there's "honor" at stake, I'd expect a serious student of chess to look really carefully at the proposition and likely they'll see through it. I'll have to think if there's another way to accomplish essentially the same thing, because I like the idea of a chess bar bet (and yes, my friends and I are the kinds of people who play chess while out at a bar).

Do you get to pick which pawns to move and do the moves as well -- as the chess master the bet is against I'd think I'd get to pick which pawns and you would get to pick the 2 moves..... but that is just me.

holy sox this is an old post .... excuse me I'm still kind of new here.

That's really pretty good.
"The New York Papers," Mark Twain once said,"have long known that no large question is ever really settled until I have been consulted; it is the way they feel about it, and they show it by always sending to me when they get uneasy. "
