It seems there are some important distinctions to be made here:
Although the article hints at his suspected involvement with a baccarat cheat team... these heavy sentences are really due to easily proven marker fraud and other financial crimes including conspiracy to commit fraud and wire fraud. Any details about actual "cheat at play" are not being released by the F.B.I. and the gaming authority isn't even aware of the cheating case. I still maintain that "cheat at play' is a difficult crime to prosecute and is highly tolerated in the states (in terms of repercussions)... but not credit fraud, conspiracy to commit fraud, and wire fraud. |

Even so, here in England you would get about 5 years and do half inside in an open nick for financial frauds for amounts of a few million. Unless its the governments money you stole. Germany I am told is harsher on white coller crime than England. But things they are a changing.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.
