First, thank you for the Café. I love it here. I do have a feature suggestion. It would be great to have a button that aggregates all unread topics since my last visit. This would be an excellent way to scan all new activity.

I think what you're looking for is our coffee mugs. The white ones are posts and topics that have been read and the red ones are posts that you have not read.

Dave,
The red mugs are very helpful, but I was hoping to be able to view all unread posts across all the various forums at one time. |

Here's the problem I have with the red mugs...sometimes the mug will be red on the forum title, but when I enter the room - none of the threads have a red mug. It often appears as if the red mugs are inaccurate. I'm not trying to be mean, but they don't appear to be reliable.

I believe they time out after awhile. Maybe it has something to do with the automatic updates/refreshes.

They don't time out. I have red mugs that have been there for weeks. The operation of the mugs depends on the browser that is used. For instance, using IE, there are some forums that never turn red for me, but using firefox, there is no problem. The red mug/white mug feature does not always work correctly.
Epsilon, are you saying you would like to see all of the unread posts in one place instead of spread out through the various forums?

I think I know what Epsilon's referring to. It's a feature I've seen on some other message boards: a link you can click that finds all threads with new posts since your last visit -- from every forum, across the whole message board -- and displays them as if they were in a single forum made up of just the threads with new posts. You can still find new posts the usual way, by going to each forum and clicking on it. It doesn't move new posts to a special forum or anything; the "New Posts" link just creates, on the fly, a list of all threads with new posts so you can access all of them from one page.
It's a handy thing. I know it's built into vBulletin, but I don't know for sure what other message board software offers it.

FrenchDrop,
That is exactly what I am talking about. That feature would be a great addition to the Café. |
